How do you guys carry your kayaks?

Usually I carry the 14’ kayaks using a set of Tule Hullavators mounted to a Yakima Overhaul rack. When pulling the E-Pro trailer, I add a single Rhinorack crossbar on the hardtop and mount one of the Hullavators to that. This allows enough clearance between the kayaks and the trailer to keep the kayaks from hitting the trailer when turning.

I finally went camping with my kayaks and figured out the best way to carry them on a KB Voooo Max Modular bed rack. I have the 22" high model which is about flush with the roof and I put black painted carpeted 2X4s at the front and rear to raise the kayaks safely above the roof. I remember posting pictures of the finished bed rack and padded 2X4s somewhere on this site.

Turns out all that wasn't high enough and after trying my preferred upside down kayak pointing forward I had to go with it upright facing backward with some foam spacers on the front 2X4, otherwise the kayak would sag onto the roof. This bed rack is only 48" long and that makes for a lot of overhang with 14ft kayaks jockeying them front to rear to keep from hitting my travel trailer to the rear vs too much unsupported over the cab. It eventually worked out great for a 600mi trip with no problems.

@run2recovery this looks like a great set up. How does the tonneau open? I didn't see any pics on the vendor's site. Will this work with the utility rails in the bed?

This looks like a nice setup. Web page notes drilling needed, can you describe how it's installed? Also, how is the tonneau cover quality? Does it seal well? Any detailed pictures of the mounting sytem?

Don't have the Gladiator yet but when I do, I will be transferring the Boonedox bed extender and Thule racks over. Should be the same as the Tacoma has the same short bed.

Yakima bars on my ARE cap with Malone kayak cradles. Although I need to use a step ladder to get ‘em on and off. I’m 6’5” but it’s a pretty high reach.

We have 2 12ft fishing kayaks. We have a Malone kayak trailer. Best investment for the kayaks. When camping we can just drop the trailer. If there is a boat ramp you can just back right in. Only picture on my phone was before I got my gladiator

Got this bed extender on Amazon for $125. Works well and adjusts up and down and side to side, put on noodles to protect my boat

This is what I do too to carry 2 kayaks; pair of 10.5' kayaks.
The pool noodle is a great idea, I'm going to do that too now

I just attached using duct tape.

I just carried 2 yesterday.

Slid them into the bed, tied the bowline of each to the front corner tie down point and let them hang out the back with the tailgate down. If I had to take them a long distance, I might use the rear points and put a tie down or bungie over the top to hold the back end down.

But that's it. simple, free, secure and quick
