Were they accessing the security gateway behind the glove box?

Why Jeep still doesn't enable the alarm with the hood opening when armed by default, is still beyond me. It's a single setting.

Has anyone gotten it to work properly - TESTED it, after enabling?
Some of the Wrangler people say that they enable it via JSCAN or AlfaOBD or whatever and it allows the hood to be opened, then triggers the horn when you close the hood.

I totally agree with your thinking - but so far I've not seen where someone tested it, just enabled it.

Saw this on the news

Good reason to install hood locks.
That's not how they steal these - stupid thieves didn't need to open the hood to disable the horns sounding. Can be done through the grill. No need to pull a fuse.
The article says one was in the passenger side messing with wiring, well, that's all they really need to do after cutting the horn wires through the grill.

Hood locks will stop some things, but anyone who knows Jeeps knows where the horn wires are - unless you have moved the horns and protected the wiring from access via the grill.

Not against hood locks - I'm for them, but...........

Welp… I think I’ll have to test it today. ?

I also just enabled via JSCAN and called it good. Either way, if they try this method, they’ll at least alert the neighborhood to some degree.

Although I don’t think I’ve ever cared to check when I hear a car alarm, usually just assume it’s a false one or someone’s problem.

Yes, I have. It works when hood plunger is fully released.

Nah. Toronto is a hot bed for auto theft.

Count me in the "I never tested it" - I just assumed, crowd. Then I read some posts on the Wrangler side of things where a couple of them confirmed - silence when opening the hood, horns went off when closing.
Yeah, I took them at their word, too.

My hood alarm works while opening with ECRI. I’ve set it off a couple times
Mine works as well after using ECRI to make the setting last year.

JSCAN and AlfaOBD (and tazer, of course) would use the exact same setting, so I don't know what those other guys were talking about - but good to know it works.

Yeah, I know what ECRI is.
I was saying I don't know what those other guys were talking about when they said it didn't work when they changed that setting - the alarm didn't work correctly and the horn sounded when the hood closed, not opened.

Thus my comment that it would use the same setting. It's in the BCM, I probably have a printout of those lines somewhere.

Yeah I'll just keep mine in the garage. If your fast maybe you can get in the truck before the dog comes tearing through the doggy door. I doubt it though. My dog has a undefeated record.
