Every once in a while ( frequently enough ), I lose the screen, usually during a critical navigation point while using Waze, to some annoying pop up about an emergency vehicle ( as if Waze didn't display disabled vehicles ), or severe weather ( as if I couldn't tell on my own ), and it doesn't go away. Not only is this annoying, but I see it as a driver-distraction, b/c I have to reach over and clear it just to see where I'm going ( 1st world problems, I know ). I didn't opt in for this crap, and as the owner of the vehicle, I should have full control over what is on that screen, and when, and for how long, without surprises. Other forums mention using JSAN or Tazer -> is that truly my only option? I have to spend more $$$ to disable something that I didn't want?

Looks like I'm wanting to disable the HAAS alert system.

I’ve never seen that on mine. Is there actually an emergency vehicle approaching when the warning shows up? Could be nice if you’re blasting tunes or distracted with kids or something. If it’s random then it’s useless.
Your local municipality (or the municipalities that you visit) has to buy into the service that provides these alerts.

Never seen either emergency vehicle or severe weather notification. I encounter fire trucks and ambulances very often. Wife’s Compass does show weather notifications Which I do find annoying.

Update:
Apparently, from other threads I've read, EVA notifications may be included in the Travel Link feature of Uconnect. I still have the trial subscription. Before reading about this, I tried to activate Travel Link on my settings screen but always got a message like "This feature is currently unavaillable. Please try again later". Finally, something that's broke and i don't care if Jeep ever fixes it.
BTW, on my drive today I passed two hospitals where ambulances were in the vicinity and later came upon a lane closure on the surface street where a crew was installing a new traffic signal. Not a peep from the radio. Crickets.

And I thought the weather alerts were annoying.

Alert the driver, by taking their focus off the road, about a possible condition on the road. Brilliant!

It looks like HAAS rollout is courtesy of DHS, after HAAS Inc. created it, "...
the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology
Directorate (S&T) created a program to develop an Emergency Vehicle Warning System...". That is a nice run-on sentence there. Link to DHS' .pdf https://www.dhs.gov/sites/default/f...arning_haas_report_final_20july2021-508_0.pdf

To me, this looks to be another reason to disconnect the cellular modem.

The emergency vehicle also has to be traveling with lights on. Tow truck with lights on also will send an alert.

The alerts show up based on your proximity to the transmitter in the emergency vehicle. Some are moving, some are parked and providing assistance. All the alerts I received were when I got near a parked vehicle on the side of the road.

According to another Jeep forum:

Disabling Travel Alerts with either a Tazer JL or with JSCAN will stop alerts.

With JSCAN:

Disable Travel Link:

ADAPTATION
---> Radio user settings --> SDAR Travel Link Feature Present On/Off--> Target Value = Deactivated

With a Tazer JL ....
In radio sub menu, chose disable "TravelLnk” >enable/disable SiriusXM TravelLink
Or cancel your Sirius XM bullshit.

I’ve seen it maybe 10 times
- few times was weather that was quite obvious, and adding distractions to the driver didn’t help
- once when I saw lights in my rearview about 5 miles back on the interstate, and it took 5 to 10 minutes before they caught up with me ( I saw the lights way before the notification )
- 75% of the time it was a pure distraction/annoyance, alerting me for things that were already known/obvious ( by Waze ), or concealing my turns ( again Waze ) near intersections for things that were not even in my direction of travel

I was receiving an alert on a spur of the interstate loop under construction to tell me it was going from three lanes to one, towards the end where you exit. The road has been like that for five years. But the new Jeep needed to tell me. I think it turns off whatever other media you have running at the time. Fortunately they opened up the rest of that loop last week so no more interuption. I don’t receive any other alerts.

I get no less than 3 alerts per day on my 72 mile round trip drive to and from work. It’s flat F’ing annoying and I’m sick of it. It will tell me there’s a disabled vehicle, I think it calls it a hazard, when there’s a dude simply changing a tire. I can see the guy changing his tire, I don’t need a computer to help me. It’s even worse when there’s a tow truck display and the tow truck is parked on the other side of the road eating his lunch. Can’t make this stuff up.

As a firefighter/paramedic frequently stopped in the middle of a highway or trying to get to a 911 scene, I appreciate the warnings I get about nearby emergency vehicles. Traffic accidents are the number one killer of 1st responders. All other causes put together (fires, heart attacks, shootings, etc.) don't amount to the deaths to EMS, fire, and police personnel resulting from working MVCs. Don't forget that on the other end of that could be your mother, daughter, wife, sister, etc. in a crushed car across several lanes of traffic around a blind turn on a stormy night on your local roadway. It's a single tap on a screen and it disappears.

But most the time it pops up is on a sunny day with unlimited visibility on a straight highway in an urban area and the bright colored vehicles covered in more strobes than a UFO are easy to see. One more pop-up is distracting from the first job of driving safely in proximity to an emergency and rubberneckers.

How do pilots put it? Priorities are Aviate, Navigate, then Communicate. A bunch of tech-bros decided that interconnected communication can Tech our way out of problems, but they just end up competing for our limited attention, making the problems worse.

Yet in aviation, whatever airline pilots are flying will automatically say, "too low", "pull up", or "terrain, terrain". IIRC, the Jeep vocal warning says "traffic incident up ahead", "construction ahead", or something like that. This is the same thing. You dont have to look at the screen. As far as clear sunny days, like most of us, you're probably sleeping when it's dark out. Therefore, 95% of the time you're driving, it's on a clear sunny day. Finally, are you actually complaining about emergency vehicles having TOO MANY lights? I'm not even going to dignify that with any kind of response.
