Yep: As several other replies have said, grab a pair of vice grips or pliers and start pulling. I keep a large Leatherman strapped to the back of my seat, and have had to do this at least once in a parking lot. You won't break it, but it does suck not having much leverage.

I made this mistake once, wish i had seen the kermit video, as i used vice grips and curse words to just pull it out 1 notch.

Now I just make sure i dont push them in when i take the doors off.

Take a 2 1/2 ft length of mule tape. Put a slip knot on one end and a loop on the other. Attach the slip knot around the end of the check and give it a quick, forceful tug. It’ll pop right out.

Thanks for your input. So I'm not the first person to have this problem. This is a good thing.
Not pushing them in in the first place wasn't really an option.

The doors were off for most of the summer, but almost every weekend we went to a weekend place about 120 miles away. So they went on for the trip. I did the trip once with them off and it was miserable.

I want to be able to put them on and off without tools.

Either way you have given me an idea. Maybe tack weld some kind of a handle to a nut that fits the bolt. Then grab it with a set of large vise grips.
i find myself in similar situations needing to travel but then want the doors off. I went with the 2 pc bestop soft doors. Very portable and then also can run 1/2 doors. My wife likes the 1/2 door option the best.
