I know I’m going to catch grief for this question. Why go larger wheels and tires

I feel like I’m the only person here that has not gone to larger wheels and tires. Now I get those of you doing hardcore anything off road. Larger tires along with a lift give you more traction, better break over, and more ground clearance. However if you are not doing the Rubicon all the time what is the point? Adding lifts, tires, wheels , and gears costs thousands and hurts what little fuel economy we have. So I guess I want someone to tell me why this is a must have mod.

This question assumes that this vehicle choice (or most vehicle choices), and then choices of what to do on and with them, are products of measured rationality.

This vehicle is FUN (in addition to also being actually-useful).

How you define your particular type of fun is your individual calculus.

You are correct, I throw my 37's on when I go on the trails (4.5" suspension lift) and put the 34's on when I pull the trailer. Wider wheels with an offset are needed to go to a bigger tire.
Who wants to show up on any trail with anything less than 35's?, even worse, 35's or bigger with no suspension lift or room for the tires?

I'm tired thinking about you throwing 37s for this,...throwing 34s for that,...geez!

It's not a must have. Simple. ?

Pictured below are my 4th and 5th Jeeps, only 2 of which ever had larger tires and lift. Some people like the way it looks and that's all that matters. Some people want the mods on the trail and not need them than need the mods and not have them. Then there's some of us who off-road daily. Also mileage would be awesome to have, but I'm not sacrificing a good time to save a little money.

Nice rigs. I have a Gladiator sport s max tow also that I just picked up a month ago. Are those bigger tires and a lift on yours. Mine is still stock and is raked forward. Don’t really like the look. However worried if the tires are much bigger it will affect the tow capacity

I will put bigger tires on some rubicon take off wheels when the stock tires are ready worn out. I just want to get the use out of the stock tires first because I will never recoup any thing off of them, plus when it is time to upgrade to bigger tires and a small lift it’s like getting a whole new Jeep.

Your Jeep...you do you! With that being said it IS all about the shoes, and it really has the biggest effect on the overall look of your Jeep, as countless before/after pictures clearly demonstrate. If that's your only reason for doing it...I get it! My Mojave spends more time/miles OFF road than on and I have a set of wheels/tires in my future because they also allow more clearance/function off road, which is a win/win for my particular situation...

I throw on and off snow tires on winter steel rims and summer tires on alloy rims, and that's enough throwing for me. But to each their throwin'

I can think of only 2 reasons to go bigger tires.
1. To "improve" the physical appearance of your Jeep. In all honesty, if that was your only reason for doing this. Don't. It looks cool enough.
2. To improve off road performance. This is a whole other discussion that goes way beyond this forum. The short story is this. As a stock vehicle I have taken it off road, including Moab, and on of obstacles I've had to endure the "banging and scraping". Fortunately no body damage.

Jeeps have incredible capability. However, I never get used to the banging, scraping and the feeling that I was, in fact abusing my Jeep.

I plan to lift and go to 37's over the next few weeks. The parts are ordered. Just waiting for their arrival. Given the way I intend to use my Jeep, it just seems like the right thing to do.

I installed 35s because I thought the stock 33s looked too small in relation to the truck. I went with white wagon wheels because I think the black wheel trend has peaked and I wanted something different.

Mine is still stock with stock tires. Eventually if I need a lift down the road I’d get one . But I’m not doing anything crazy yet that needs a lift.

But they do look better lifted with bigger tires.

15s won't clear the brakes. 17 is the minimum to clear.

The tires were the only thing I didn't like about mine. I changed them the next day. They look dorky with stock tires. Rubicons look good already.
