To those have had this and maybe taken care of it personally, is it just corrosion between paint and metal? Or is it perhaps corrosion from the seem of the hood and internal hood metal?

If the latter, then perhaps something like a Fluid Film treatment to the inside of the hood could help prevent it.

it happens on the front edge of the hood, hinge area, door hinges, and doors.
It's under the paint. Spraying something externally is unlikely to prevent it.

It's happening on GM products and Fords as well.

On mine it’s directly under the Rubicon lettering on my hood. I will get some inside shots to determine which piece is actually having issues.

That's why I'm wondering as the hinge corrosion pics I've seen make it hard to imagine where it's coming from. Other than just some corrosion directly under the paint as if the problem is there from day one and just takes time to bubble up, because it doesn't always seem to be where water may ingress.

However, with the hood corrosion I wonder if it's from the pinch seam. Like water is getting in there and corrodes over time until it starts bubbling the paint. And by Fluid Film treatment I mean spraying the inside of the hood between the two layers.

I believe this image is a JK hood, but the red outlines show the seams well. If one were to spray FF through some of the yellow holes with an extension hose, it could add a protective layer internally and would sit in those seams where water could otherwise sit.

So not exactly an external application of FF, though some external just along that seam would likely be good too if water in these areas are the cause.

Just found this on my 21 jkr, dealer is already taking care of it, going to body shop next week, most people are having issues with the paint bubbling around the door hinges ,I guess the hoods are something new, good luck with the dealer.

Several years ago I bought a new ford on a cloudy day….
Couldn’t see the silver paints bubbles. It is truly frustrating….. I mean paint cars has been a thing for at least 100 years. The mystery should be gone by now

I have this on both sides of my hood in 2-3 spots. and I have one hinge bubbling. I'm just waiting for more to show up before I get it taken care of at this point.

I noticed my hood is starting to bubble. At 43,000 miles. Need to bring it in soon. My daughter's JL had hinges on 4 doors bubble over 50k, warranty wouldn't cover it.

I had this on my 2020 within a year of purchase. My understanding is that it happens when the surface is improperly treated prior to painting. Probably why it tends to happen along the edges and seams.
