That is nasty. I would almost argue for a new unpainted hood to be painted for replacement than deal with them trying to get that under control and repainted.

Yeah, the fact that it is blistering on the underside panel as well has me thinking along the same lines.

What did the dealer ever do for your hood?

Not sure if it’s a coincidence but it seems a lot of the standard colors are having these symptoms vs the up-charged colors. Could just be the odds though only smaller.

I’d make the assumption that the thing was fixed within a reasonable time and price or we’d probably see a rant.

I don’t know why they’re having those problems. Granted paint was “better” back in the day, but a lot more deadly.

I used to paint series rovers and the occasional postal van, both aluminum alloy on steel. Never had these problems.

Sometimes you saw people with problems when they took off their own panels and put them back on without isolators… but that would just eat the bolt hole away till it was no longer touching.

Is it the alloy or the prep or maybe the design. It’s impossible to take apart and look. Heck, I was gunna isolate my door hinges but worry I’ll break those bolts trying to get them out.

I thought white was the only standard color..........

As far as why - ask GM, Ford and others. Jeep isn't alone by any stretch.
I doubt it's the paint itself - problems like this are almost always the substrate or the prep. (or a problem with the processes making the metal panels or hood skeleton causing issues with the surface of the metal)

Most of the non-Jeep bubbling I've seen has been exactly like this along hood edges and so on.

Are they not getting oils out of the surface of the metals? Is it prep gone wrong or cheap?

I noticed my hood is starting to bubble. At 43,000 miles. Need to bring it in soon. My daughter's JL had hinges on 4 doors bubble over 50k, warranty wouldn't cover it.
I am under the understanding the corrosion warranty is 5 years unlimited miles.

You would think that after several decades of improvements to processes, prep, primers and paints, they'd beat AMCs rust warranty of the 1980s.
After this ad came out, in the mid-80s, it was 5 years, 100,000 miles on some models.

The catch? The term -> "RUST THROUGH".
Though shalt not see light through our panels.
But still - they did it. And yet today, we have not really gotten much better than 40 years ago.

I'm about due to re-coat my underbody and am wondering if it's necessary in WA. Coming from the mid-atlantic where they do their best to exhaust the salt budget each winter, rust is just unavoidable. So far after ten months on the West Coast I have seen hardly any corrosion at all. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Get it in ASAP. And if you have dealer options, you might have to go to a couple different ones to see who can take care of you.

I had a Jeep dealer (Yark in Toledo) tell me 6-12 month wait and my warranty would expire while waiting.
