I like the sound of a small block v8, and ideally low maintenance. When I drive my JT with its pentastar v6, I do draw correlations between it and my old ‘77 novas. 1 had a straight 6 that would never die, and the other was a 305 v8. That 305 v8 produced ( I think ) just under 300hp, which is very similar to this Jeep V6 in power, but the newer v6 has VVT which makes its power curve more beneficial.

After a few minutes of research on the LS engines, in stock form, the majority of them were also right around that 300hp mark. To find something with more power, you almost have to look at the 5.7 or bigger, or look at the more expensive corvette variations. Well, the 5.7 and on up are going to be a longer/heavier block than we have today, which doesn’t bode well for fitment. Those corvette variants are cool and all, but for that kind of $$$ you might as well do something else.

after thinking that through, the jeep v6 is really impressive for what it’s doing, and it’s delivering that 285hp w/out the complexities of a turbo nor forced induction. That’s really impressive!!!

Why people bother with these suggestions, not that this thread or the other one is legitimately suggesting anything to Stellantis. At least if they see overwhelming support on forums for putting THEIR v8 in the thing there's a remote possibility. I don't care if every Jeep owner ever wrote them a letter asking for a gm engine it wouldn't happen. Might as well ask for it to be pulled through the sky by a team of unicorns while you're at it.

The 77 305 made half the hp you recall, as that was the height of smog era low compression, tiny cam, garbage. "305.2 cui, 108 kW / 147 PS / 145 hp (SAE net) of power, 332 Nm / 245 lb-ft of torque"
Less than .5hp/cubic inch. Hot garbage and makes the pentastar feel like a powerhouse by comparison. That 3500lb car took 10.5 seconds to get to 60. The gladiator does it in 7 seconds at 2k lbs heavier. As with most people, nostalgia seems to sugar coat the reality of just how much better modern powertrains are. Hell the 90s era fox body with the 5.0L was slower to 60 than a stock JLU now... and that's not even talking the 392.

Personally I'm very happy with the 3.6 in my Gladdy 🙂

You cherry picked here. No one is talking about a 1970 era engine. My Jk had a LS3 crate engine with 6L80E trans. Got 22 mpg on highway with 4:88 gears. Would be great engine for JL and JT. I have an LT1 crate engine that is destined for my JT soon. Lighter than hemi and easier to install. Cant say much for GM cars anymore but they still build great engines.

I did a li'l look see into the towing capacity of the Colorado and the Silverado with that DuraMax 2.7L Turbo engine, like 435 ft.lbs of torque, and the towing capacity for the Colorado is like 7K lbs and the Silverado is like 9K lbs or something like that. If they put that similar engine in the Gladiator, we could possibly see a 8or 9K towing capacity if it's based on engine alone and not vehicle size.
The Ram 1500 EcoDiesel can tow up to 12,560 pounds when properly equipped. Has nothing to do with engine size and everything to do with cooling and overheating. A better frame wouldn't hurt either.

I know reading is hard, go back and read the post I replied to (which is why the reply feature exist because context matters)? The guy literally stated that his '77 nova made nearly 300hp...it was 145hp. Obviously nobody is swapping smog era garbage into a modern vehicle.

Hey now… don’t be hating on us old Nova guys… although mine is pretty far from the stock smog era motor 😂
Jeep Gladiator I vote for a small block Chevrolet. IMG_5062

I still think Jeep nailed it with the 3.0, and the only other engine I would consider is the 5.7 hemi. I would be totally fine with 345 horsepower.

The nova is a classic and a great base to build off of, but in stock form it was a dog. Even the 350 only made 170hp. Not hating on nova's, just correcting wishful remembering with the sad truth. Having run the 5.7L in my ram hard for over 120k miles I completely agree it would be great in the JT.
