Looking for ideas for mounting the boards to the inside roof using the M8 rails. I could use long M8 bolts and wing nuts, but the on/off process would be difficult through the side window. I could use four of those eyes and camlock straps, but it'll probably loosen and rattle. Wanted to see if anyone had a better idea.

Use only 2 m8 bolts with wing nuts at one end of the boards. Then on the other end just fab up a little c channel basket style thing to hold the end up. This means you only need to undo 2 bolts since the other side is just sitting on something rather than bolted.

Maxtrax makes quick-release mounting pins that would work great for this. There’s an eccentric cam in tough nylon plastic that fits through a particular slot in the maxtrax board, you turn the cam a quarter turn, and lock it in place.

$60-70 for maxtrax brand. Or if you like, there are clones on the big internet retailers for about half that (I have a set of clone pins, they’re perfectly fine). Now, these are specific to Maxtrax, and you didn’t say if you have those or a different brand. I suspect other brands may have the exact same-shaped slot, but I’m not sure.

Also the Maxtrax pins are M10 on the rear, not M8. So you’d probably make 4x adapters; short pieces of bar stock with 8mm and 10mm holes, mount to the rails with M8, mount the pins outside the rails with M10.

I don’t mind telling you, this is some tough stainless steel. In order to shorten mine and drill and tap them at the new length, I had to learn a lot about work hardening and break a bunch of taps
