It's not just on the highway - how many instances of "air rage" have we seen lately? A lot, way too many. And my wife and I agree - we're not likely to fly unless there's little choice - not because of anything except other passengers who are entitled moron asses. Arguing over assigned seats, PO'd over the smallest of things, misbehaving and causing a ruckus instead of sitting like adults, they act like a 3 year old - who has an excuse, they are so young as to not know any better.

Before I retired, I saw this frequently on my 20+ mile commute to work. It has gotten worse, almost consistent with the growth in population IMO.

While I agree with the comments of the increasing incivility to others ( regardless of location road, airlines, online, movie theaters, etc) I also think the increased density of population has a relationship to incivility. Just my opinion

I may be wrong, but to these old eyes that landscape and highway look the same as does the fire itself as far as location and such..
I've driven through that area quite a few times and traffic around Lake Travis is nuts. The video is definitely the same as the article
from video:
crash location from video.webp

from news article (note location and orientation of victim's car):
crash location.webp

From video:
final orientation of victim.webp

Reddit post claims it happened on 620 in Austin. News article states it happened on 620 in Austin.

We're not in "beyond a reasonable doubt" territory here, but we've certainly met the "preponderance of the evidence" burden of proof

Crash happens near an intersection right as the median turns into the turn lane on the same road
Agreed. I've driven that part of 620 a bunch. Terrain association between the two match perfectly along with the oncoming traffic splitting into 3 lanes right where the JT crosses median and gets t-boned. Glad that the victim didn't die. If there's one thing I hate is asshole drivers. even worse are people that are convinced they are right but don't really know how things work.

Try driving down the left lane leading up to a lane closure and there's a line stretching back 3 miles before the lane even closes! You'll find some road ragers there. Boy oh boy do they hate it when you pass in the left lane even if you're going slow.....

FWIW, before I retired 2 years ago, I flew several times a week for 10 years for my job. I never saw any of the stuff that gets reported in the news. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, it just gets a bit more sensationalized now. When you consider that the FAA says it handles 45,000 flights a day in the US and we see 1 or 2 of these incidents a week, it's statistically low that you might encounter it.

I'm not trying to nay-say your concern, just realize that the jackwagons aren't on every flight. Honestly, the one thing that always grinded my gears on the flights and in the terminals, was the people that looked like they just rolled out of bed, didn't shower and rolled up in their PJs; but then I see that at the grocery store, Starbucks, everywhere.

WARNING: CURMUDGEON RANT IMPENDING - what has happened to society?!?! It's like we are already living in one of those post-apocalyptic Hollywood movies.

Yes, all good points and before my next comment, I'll agree.
But of the odds being as you say - sadly, we saw a woman having a cow, bothering the people around here and letting her kids crawl across seats and kick the backs of other seats. Luckily, the others were extremely either patient, or had been through anger control classes. We were surprised it didn't turn into a real thing - especially being a very long international flight.
But most of the time we've been on flights where the worst that happens is seats get screwed up by the airlines or tour company and if one politely asks, I've found sometimes people will switch to allow you to be together. Be kind, know they don't have to, if they do, it's them being nice.

Must be slow news cycles lately ;)

I would normally agree, and maybe it works that way in this country, but try others with a population density that rivals the worst cases here. Walmart stores are tiny footprint, 3 and 4 stories tall. Parking is like I said earlier - 2, 3 and 4 deep and you all others so they'll move their car and you can get out.
These other people live in their sardine can cities in peace with no real trouble - it's expected of them to behave, but not possible here. There, the only personal space is the exact space your body occupies, not 3 feet in every direction around you like here. You share without question, you don't crowd and shove getting on or off subways and trains. It's orderly, polite. But not here.

Man any time someone asks me about that tiktok BS I tell them what I think of it and anyone trying to make a name for themselves there It's the worse social mediocre "disservice" ever.
Any idea is a "life hack" even if thousands of others have already been doing it, just not bragging about it. They have no clue what a real hack is, and a new way to cut a potato is a LIFE hack???
They need to get a life and open their eyes. That's what it is - the worst site for attention grabbing. My wife wanted something to do with instacrap the other day and I said I not only don't use it, I will not use it now or ever because everyone is there to be an "influencer" and people who allow themselves to be "influenced" by the jokers and clowns there........ ugh, but tiktok is the worst of the worst and is leading to a lot of what's going on - these "challenges" and so on, life hacks - get real, I've been doing that for years, it's not new, it's in the book Hints From Heloise or whatever it was called, that my parents used to read.

Understood. Anyone can reach me via my cell, regular text or email.....other than that I don't use all this other shit. I despise 90% social media. Also, #F*CK China and ANYTHING that comes from China - especially tik tok. I watch what I buy and If I see its got anything to do with China I simply do not buy it. My plan isnt 100% foolproof, but I buy AMERICAN every chance I can. We don't even eat at Chinese restaurants anymore. China is the Devil.

Road rage wasn't a thing 20+ years ago. Sure, there were idiots that got hot on the road but not to the extend now. Pack enough people into any area and tempers get short and emotions run high.

This used to be called the prison mentality until it wasn't PC to call it that. Now it's called population density...

I’ve been many places in the world- europe, Thailand, Saudi Arabia to name a few. Biggest difference is how ethnically homogenous that society is- the more it is, the more their norms are adhered to.

Also, our society values, promotes the individual vs others that promote conformity- another big difference between the US and others across the globe.

mt 2 cents from my personal observations

Maybe one or two of you will appreciate this - it points to the fact that some if this isn't entirely new - at least as far as knowing traffic laws, signs and so on.........
My father used to commute every day from home to work and back. As I recall it was a 45 minute drive each way from the town where we lived NW of Des Moines over to the factory on the east side of Des Moines. The interstates were relatively new for part of that time (late 50s into the late 70s)
Due to the distance and all, he carpooled with other men who worked there as well - most were from other towns in between ours and the plant.
Now keep in mind - this was the late 60s/early 70s I'm thinking I recall him saying this - we were old enough to understand what he was saying - and he's talking about adults.
Anyway, coming back after work one day, one of the other guys was driving. They went through Des Moines and were getting on the interstate which after a couple of miles took them to a 2 lane state highway to get home.
Coming up the entrance ramp to the interstate, the traffic of course was heavy - commute time, DUH. The driver of the car Dad was in was getting pissed and cursing at people as he tried to barge his way onto the interstate. (and the guy wasn't exactly building up speed to "merge".
The guy was getting hot when Dad calmly pointed to the sign on the ramp that said "YIELD" and asked - ya know what that means, right?
The driver answered - yes, they are supposed to get out of my way and yield to me.
Dad was so amazed at the stupidity and the fact the guy was dead serious!
It's so bad here that the IHP have gone in TV saying that "if the drivers on the interstate move over for you, it's them being courtous, they do not have to and often can not move over. It's up to you entering the highway to yield to them"
Didn't mater of the IHP campaign to spread knowledge to the driving public - people don't give a rip and it's "I have my signal on that means get the hell out of my way I'm coming in whether you are there or not" and that's the attitude of too many.
It's not a shared highway, it's MY highway MY RIGHT, get out of my way!

There is a solution to at least some of this - set your clocks 10 minutes fast, set alarms 10-15 minutes earlier than absolutely necessary, leave a bit early and enjoy the drive calmly and safely and alive.

(HAHAHA - me with diagnosed severe ADHD saying that like it's easy! Right)
I don’t drive fast because I’m running late, I drive fast because I like to drive fast. But I’m not an aggressive driver, when I was working I would get to work 20-30 minutes early every.
