I got the Warn wireless control that plugs into the hand-control plug. Wired or wireless operation.

Why not just go with a cordless winch?

Just drove an hour and a half each way to retrieve mine that was left on the tailgate after pulling myself and af friend out. I'm going to do an in cab and have the wireless as a back up. Have in cab on my side by side and it's really convenient.

There are times you must be outside of the vehicle to guide, watch over, etc.
I love the WIRELESS remote.
I don't want to be restricted to only being able to operate a winch from inside my truck, I use it for too many other purposes.

In this case, the other fellow was steering the car up the ramps as I guided it, while I ran my winch, while I watched that my rope was safe and not getting into any danger, watching alignment of the snatch block and other things. Couldn't imagine being stuck in the cab to operate the winch and watch all of the things I wanted to watch over.

(it may not look it, but that trailer and truck are up a fair incline from where the car is sitting back there. His ramps were narrow and the car has a wider wheelbase on the front than the rear wheels. We had to watch closely. And it was a rickety trailer. )

There are other times I used it and really needed to be able to wander and watch over and guide while running the winch. I could let off the pull in a split second if necessary, react much faster.

I did an in cab controller in my JK but left the ability to use the wired controller. Now I have the Apex 12K winch and with the detachable controller have the ability for wired and wireless and can use it wireless in the cab.

There are times where in cab is good and times where you just need to be outside while winching.

I've seen wireless controls fail..and like interior controls I just don't see any reason. just use the wired controls that comes with your winch its done..its reliable and easy.

My winch has a 12ft cable. I just got it and haven't used it yet but it seems easy enough to have the window down with the cable through the window if you need to be in the driver's seat.

Anything can fail if you want to go that far.
Anyone who doesn't TEST the winch and remote - wired or wireless - before taking off into the sticks or the river bottoms is asking for trouble.

I did the same in my JK. I still have ability to plug the remote into the winch but put a toggle on the dash along with a second plug. I like options. On the JT I did the APX winch so have the wired and wireless remote. When I did our Kubota SXS I did the same with the winch. Put the rocker on the dash (dropped in standard hole). Works well from the seat.
