installed MOPAR Trailer Brake Controller on 2020 JTR... no backup camera, settings all changed on head unit

Well... shit. I just installed the mopar trailer brake controller so i can pull my new camper Friday. the install was as expected, but now I have an issue. I did remove the battery negative during the install.

My Uconnect screen seems to be reset. There is a tsb for early 2020 models, but my build date is june 2020 so i shouldn't need the tsb.

Do I need to go to the dealer to reflash my computer?

Mine did the exact same thing after disconnecting the battery, while installing the brake controller.

The truck just takes time after a battery disconnect to recognize all the modules again. All of the radio presets, cameras etc, will come back automatically as the truck is driven, or even as it just sits overnight.

Dang, I hope this is the case.
The guy at the dealership just said o have to pay an hour labor to get it reflashed

I found it hard to believe as well, but it honestly does. I had customized the location all my apps, had done my Sirius stations, changed my background…. all that disappeared, including my front trail cam and many other apps I can’t remember. They all came back automatically.

The 8.4 Uconnect system takes up to 24 hours to fully recover after a reset, possibly longer in an area with poor cellular reception.

There is a TSB to apply if the brake controller causes issues. Manually applying the brakes with no trailer attached is a quick test. If the truck is still under the 3/36 warranty, then it should be done at no cost.

When I call back, I feel like I can ask what happens during the reflash…. If it is just uploads the data for my profile then I can wait.

The TSB is for a flash to the ABS system.

The truck does not need to be running for the Uconnect system to recover.

Thanks everyone. I’m now on a bus to coach a hs lacrosse game. Hopefully it’s back to normal by then. I just need everything to work Friday afternoon when we go camping.

on the bus, I googled the issue, sounds like this happens on the uconnect units for dodge too.

Maybe you can download the latest uConnect update and update your own uConnect? Not sure if it'll fix but worth a shot.

Thanks everyone! When I got back from the game, my head unit was up to date and the brake controller lit up when I started the jeep. When I got home and plugged in the trailer, the knob lit up and when I pressed the brake pedal, the light changed from green to red.

It looks like everything is working and I didn’t have to spend money at the dealership if it didn’t need to be re flashed

Camper towing always starts out confusing and difficult, your be fine, after a couple trips, everything will fall into place and you'll have a great time. Did you get the Rampage mirrors with Thorn extension adaptors, they make towing so much more comfortable being able to see down sides of trailer. Have fun tomorrow.....Jack

i did not order the adapters... my $10 amazon mirrors worked fine for the drive home after the purchase, so i will give them a shot before spending $75. If they suck, then I will get the adapters.

I am psyched to use the new camper... it is a big change from pop up life. My friends we are camping with will help me with setting it up and running through the systems.
