Why should the rest of the country cater to people cramming themselves into large cities? Have we not made enough strides in ice emissions in the last 30 years or have policy makers not realized enough financial gains from their policy making?Don't hold your breath on that. I'm not mad about CAFE, my city regularly has some of the worst air in the world and I kind of like breathing.
Salt Lake and the rest of the Wasatch Front regularly sees some of the worst air quality is the world, especially in winter months.I’m curious where you’re talking about. There isn’t a U.S. city in the top 25

That would an astronomical undertaking to spin Jeep as its own standalone entity not tied to a parent company. Aside maybe from some bridge contracts to use and license the prior parent companies IP, engineering, hardware and suppliers, a new Jeep would have to spin all that up on their own again going forward. Why does Jeep need to be owned by another company? Jeep could easily survive as an independent brand. Hell, I’d argue Jeep is one of the only reasons Stellantis even has any success. An independent Jeep brand operating solely in America would do just fine.
Exactly. Scale is the only way to make it work and the tolerances are minimal. Look at the carnage in the EV and alternative fuel startup world with Lordstown, Fisker, and others. Nikola, Faraday and Canoo are on life support. Tesla nearly went belly up years ago. That would a an astronomical undertaking to spin Jeep as its own standalone entity not tied to a parent company. Aside maybe from some bridge contracts to use and license the prior parent companies IP, engineering, hardware and suppliers, a new Jeep would have to spin all that up on their own again going forward.
I never would have guessed this. When I think of UT I think of beautiful backcountry.Salt Lake and the rest of the Wasatch Front regularly sees some of the worst air quality is the world, especially in winter months.
It's not unusual for the air to be the worst in the country with people being advised to shelter indoors. At least once or twice a year we see the headline that our air is among the worst in the world. Visibility due to smog can be down to several blocks.
That's the backcounty, in the valley we get the air quality forecast and current conditions during the weather.I never would have guessed this. When I think of UT I think of beautiful backcountry.
Musk would destroy jeep. He doesn’t care about anything. His companies are used as bank accounts for his crazy ideas. If one fails, he just moves on to another one.I would be afraid Elon would try to make them all electric. I would fight that tooth and nail.
As someone who grew up in Oshkosh, that would be very cool. Now that I think about this, maybe Oshkosh should take this on. It would be a huge boon to their military truck production plus give them a test bed for future tech. Ultimately, the increased supply of material could make their military side less expensive. ALSO, having Jeep attached to a military supplier would be a boost to their "tough" perception.
Do not ask me to source but I remember reading about 10+ years ago that the global auto market is oversaturated by 30% with excessive manufacturing capacity. Various Govt. bankruptcy bailouts both domestic and abroad have messed up market corrections that should have happened but did not. Mandated EV pushing on legacy ICE manufacturers is crippling them from the other end.The auto industry is in bad shape no matter who owns what.

Maybe, I think it's far more likely that an Indian or Chinese company would buy them - they have the capital to do it and don't have a portfolio of competing models. GM could use the Wrangler, but they already have models that compete with the rest of the Jeep portfolio. If they do buy Jeep, expect the Gladiator to be axed and the badge slapped on a Colorado with a turbo 4-cyl.
I live in Green bay. I'm not sure how many jobs it would make in the area, but it would not be a bad thing. As someone who grew up in Oshkosh, that would be very cool.
