Is the external (pre '24) radio antenna just for AM/FM?

I don't listen to either, so wondering if removing it takes away anything else.

Thanks

Thanks for the replies. Mr. Bill, that's what I replaced the OEM antenna with, but now thinking I'd rather just do away with any antenna there. Replace it with a badge.

You must have great satellite signal . In WV it's always cutting out . Some places there just isn't any satellite signal . AM/FM is more dependable

I replaced it with one of these.

CravenSpeed Stubby Antenna Compatible with Jeep Gladiator (JT) 2020-2023 | 3.2 Inches | Short Antenna Replacement | Made in The USA https://a.co/d/9j6iIcZ
Any reduction in reception?
Factory antenna getting the shit bent out of it (and sometimes gets tucked under mirror) in the car wash, want to go stubby.
Tried a brand (ksa auto) that worked (after he tried multiple other options) on my brother's Bronco, but reception went to hell on my Gladiator. (Lost my favorite station 50 miles away, fuzzy reception of a station 20 miles away.)

Thanks

I only listen to satellite radio, so I've never tested it for range loss. They claim there is none. I would assume some issues with weak stations, depending on the direction of travel, due to the antenna sitting below the hood line.

I tested a few and there is a huge reduction in reception. You can't tell on local super strong stations but if you tune in a few marginal to weak AM stations on the stock antenna then swap to a tiny one they go away. I settled on a 13" tall job that works good enough on my two 50,000 watt local AM stations.

Thanks, but I don't do iSlave.
Android Auto and stream the station on iHeartRadio when I'm out of range, but streaming adds commercials *where it thinks I am* and eliminates the local weather.

99% of the time, I want to listen on FM, but without having the factory antenna brutalized in the carwash.

FM band is a little less effected by moderate changes in antenna length, I get reasonable FM reception with my 13" version on FM and I go through automatic car washes all the time. Here is the antenna I got and you can't believe any advertising claims, they are all lies. They claim "The material used to receive the signal inside is made of high-quality copper core, which enhance signal and reduce signal loss" which is techno babble BS. You have to test them and compare to the stock antenna to know what's going on.

I've had no issues with the Metra brand stubby antenna from AutoZone

KSaAuto was what worked on my brother's Bronco, but was crap at both 6" and 13" lengths on my Gladiator.

Yup, If you don't have some really strong stations in your town you will loose some stations. You can do a basic test before you buy a short antenna by logging what you can hear on both AM and FM then remove the stock antenna and clip on 13" of wire and see what happens. If you have equipment like I have in the garage you could make a quick loaded antenna by wrapping the right amount of wire around a wood dowel so its resonant around 100MHz then compare that to the stock antenna. A 13" tall coil loaded resonant antenna for 100MHz will work slightly better than just 13" of wire but still nowhere near what a full length 100MHz resonant antenna will do, which is what the stock antenna is.
