He has a Gladiator with Selec-Trac, which has the 4WD Auto/4WD Part time feature. Different transfer case along with CV-Joints instead of U-Joints on the axle.

Selec-Trac is a nice option to have if you live somewhere where it snows or rains alot. Most common on the Overland model.

Well, from the profile his appears to be a Mojave for which I have never ever seen that before. Always a first I guess

Whoa .... you're a diesel tech and did not know that lubricant applied to the tie rod threads to prevent seizing might migrate?

There's a dip stick on the other end of the tie rod. You should check it often.
