I live in SW Florida and things are not looking good. My wife and I are safe in Georgia so that is the main thing, but my Mohave is sitting in the garage and may very well get wet.

10’ storm surge and it’s probably at the bottom of the doors, but it may be more. So any idea on how deep the water can get before it’s totaled?

Bottom of the doors is into the engine, transmission, and differentials/axles.

You won't know until you get there, but start thinking about changing all fluids before you fire it up.

If there is water in the cab, pull the floor liners and carpet and pull all the drain plugs.

The important thing is to stay safe, the truck can be replaced. When you get back call your insurance company and ask what you should do. I hope your home and truck come through the storm okay.

There's a big difference between a quick water crossing and being parked in flood water. The water gets past the electrical plug seals and actually will fill the wiring. Assume that the truck will be a gonner if that happens - in fact, you should advocate for the truck being written off. Water intrusion into the electrical system of a modern car will be a nightmare when those wires start to corrode; that might not happen for months or even years. Work with your insurance to pull off any salvageable parts, like lift kits. If they want stock parts to replace it, I have bin full of factory Rubicon suspension that's yours if you want it.

SALT water... Fording depth assumes a certain speed with a bow wave, so static water depth is perhaps a couple inches higher before immediate damage occurs. This is salt water though mixed with whatever potentially caustic or corrosive pollutants get mixed up in it. The longer it sits submerged or whatever residue is left behind the greater your risk.

Right now the important thing is you and your family are safe.

Hopefully the water holds back, but until after the storm that's another day's worry.

i live in Fort Myers on the Caloosahatchee river east of SR31, when Ian hit 2 years ago, my jeep had water almost to the bottom of the seats, keep in mind the water is a surge, it comes in and leaves quickly, where i'm located the water is essentially from lake O, and mostly fresh before it meets the gulf, it may have been brackish with the surge at the time but who knows,
i simply pulled the floor board drain plugs, checked all the fluids to make sure no water intrusion, rinsed the interior and exterior, especially the under cariage with fresh water, and have been driving ever since, thats been over 25k miles later, no issues...these Gladiators are tuff, and im sitting here waiting for the same thing to happen again ^,...,^

I’m in Punta Gorda, Charlotte Harbor. I’m a lot more worried about water in the house than the Jeep, but I’ll need a truck if the water does get into the house.

And it’s not looking good.

Thanks.

10ft storm surge is nuts. I just read some places may see 15ft. I didn’t even know that was possible.

Glad you and your family were able to get somewhere safe. The Jeep is probably toast unless your area has some serious water diversion systems in place….or a huge seawall like Galveston TX does.

Just a truck though, replaceable.

I will keep all of you in my thoughts and prayers. I lived through a major hurricane in Houston and several storms have been tropical still when they got here. Stay safe. We will help with any advice and commiseration we can, but your truck can be replaced. You all and your families can’t.

Good luck, and stay safe. That’s the most important thing. I’m riding out Milton today from New Port Richey. No flood zone, but probably wind damage. Her Cherokee is in the garage, and my Mojave is in the driveway. Fully prepared. Everyone in west Florida stay safe

Everything is good here in New Port Richey. Power is back on. Thoughts go out to our neighbors to the south.

Hey brother, praying for ya’ll. I’m in St Pete, evacuated yesterday to Tallahassee. I picked up my new Mojave the same day just before I left. Helene totaled our old minivan (thank you?). No way I was leaving this one behind, my wife drove our main family car and I drove the Jeep. It’s looking like it will hit someone between St Pete and Sarasota as Cat 4. Stay Safe. This is my first post here so I’m glad I found this forum, great info! Researching now the basics from a random hotel in Tallahassee: floor mats, bedliner spray and Hard tonneau good luck to ya’ll!

I don't know how all you gulf coast-ians do it with hurricanes, I get crap for living in the cold and snow, but I couldn't handle the stress and anxiety living down there. May all of you be safe the next couple days.

Yep, even the jokes about not having to shovel humidity and rain go out the door in a hurricane. Lots of folks in Florida are still shoveling sand out of their homes from the last two hurricane storm surges. This one is projected to cause storm surges on the east coast as well as the west coast. It will still be a category 1 when it hits the Atlantic Ocean.

Wishing the OP all the best, hoping he has a home left to come back to. The 11AM Wednesday cone map now shows a shift south, not good for the OP. www.nhc.noaa.gov

ill give the OP a quick local update, looks like eye is 130 miles due west of Naples and is taking a sharp turn north, good for Punta Gorda bad for Tampa,
Tornado's are touching down but mostly east of 75 toward Arcadia
Also Storm Surge is supposed to hit during low tide phase so that should help

Local update for OP
Storm is officially 71 miles due west at Punta Gorda/PC, still headed NE, wind shear from the north is lowering its wind speeds, still have the southern part of the storm bringing in the storm surge, thats gonna be the nail biter waiting for the next 12 hours
