Antonio Filosa is juggling three roles: Jeep CEO, Stellantis North America COO and serving on the committee looking to find Carlos Tavares' replacement. (JEEP )

Stellantis NV appointed executives including North America boss Antonio Filosa to a committee taking over from ousted Chief Executive Officer Carlos Tavares, as the automaker works to fill a leadership void.

The group will be headed by Chairman John Elkann and shape decisions at the company until a new CEO is found, Stellantis said Dec. 2 in a statement. Members also include purchasing chief Maxime Picat, who will oversee China and the Leapmotor International venture, and Chief Financial Officer Doug Ostermann.

Former CFO Richard Palmer was appointed as special adviser to Elkann and will be a “sounding board” for the company’s leadership, Stellantis said.

Q3 2024 Electric Vehicle Market Share and Sales (U.S.)
Q3 2024 EV sales numbers have arrived. Here are some standouts that got our attention:

  • U.S. EV market share reached a new high of 8.9% in Q3 2024.
  • EV sales were up 11% year-over-year, totaling 346,309 sales in the third quarter.
  • Tesla’s U.S. EV market share fell to 48%.
  • General Motors reported a 60% increase in EV sales year-over-year, compared to a 12% for Ford.
  • The Honda Prologue, Chevrolet Equinox EV, Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Kia EV9 are among the most popular EVs from legacy OEMs. Tesla’s Model Y and refreshed Model 3 continue to sell in big numbers.
  • Electric trucks are not taking off like automakers had hoped.
The third quarter of 2024 was another record quarter for EV sales in America as more drivers give owning and leasing an electric vehicle a try. Propelled by big manufacturer incentives, EV market share is nearing 10% of all new car sales in America. Tesla still dominates with 48% market share in America, but continues to see rising competition.

Ever increasing market share = cars no one wants.

The reality is no, they truly don't. I personally would love an EV it just won't happen because my trip distances are simply too long. I leave for Phoenix tomorrow. That's a fourteen hour drive. My friend takes his Tesla. For him it's two days. He has to stop in Las Vegas because he doesn't want to use the fast chargers too much because that kills the batteries. He also maintains them at close to 80% because he tells me that that increases their life cycle. He's an actual engineer, who can dial Musk direct, so I will go with what he says.

Unsold EVs are piling up at car dealerships. What does that mean for the auto industry?
The amount of inventory varies by automaker, but dealers say it’s a sign that the majority of U.S. consumers aren’t ready to switch to an electric car.

Unsold inventory is piling up in the industry. That's why Jeep is idling plants and laying off workers.

Saying it's an EV problem is as dumb as me looking at the 100 RAM trucks and 50 Jeeps on my local dealer's lot and saying " no one wants gas vehicles ".

EVs are popular and here to stay. Fast Charging a Tesla every single day would be hard on it, but not for infrequent roadtrips. Sounds like he doesn't understand the product.

Remove the government payouts and let them compete in the market then.

Half of them don't qualify for the incentive. Sales are still increasing year over year.

Speaking of incentives....

"The United States subsidizes the fossil fuel industry with taxpayer dollars. It's not just the US: according to the International Energy Agency, fossil fuel handouts hit a global high of $1 trillion in 2022 – the same year Big Oil pulled in a record $4 trillion of income."

Shall we end fossil fuel subsidies and force gas vehicle manufacturers to compete 'fairly'?

Antonio Filosa is an Italian who made his career at Fiat Brazil. Got appointed to head Jeep and then N.A. only a few months ago.

Filosa represents North American consumer interests as much as I represent those of Martians'. 😫

EV's are over supplied. There are more EV's by percentage, than ICE vehicles. That's a simple fact. And it's really easy to double your sales when the numbers are so low. Total number of EV's nationwide is around 3.3 million, as opposed to around 288 million ICE vehicles.

So less than 1.5% of the total vehicle population of the country. And they have been for sale for years, and years.

EV's are great for short distance running around town. But there are few people who can afford to have a vehicle dedicated to that sole purpose.
