It's used more in Jeeps than in the minivan. The minivan has a Jeep engine.I don't know about the history, but I do know the current Chrysler minivan has a 3.6L Pentastar. Yup, we got a minivan engine.
Contrary to some opinions, the Pentastar is a pretty good engine. I have 3 of them, 2 over 100K and they are running strong. The 12 JK had a head issue (first year engine) that was covered under warranty and has been trouble free since. The 17 WK2 has 140K on it and I have only done regular oil changes and the plugs at 100K. The Pentastar has plenty of power for me in all my vehicles. The Gladiator is only at 16K but again, I have more than enough power with it stock.
I don't get the Pentastar hate. Sure a V8 option would be nice but not everyone needs it. I never missed the V8 in the Grand Cherokee.
Let me add this parting thought. If our 3.6L Gladiators have a minivan engine simply because it is used in a minivan, then by your logic, the diesel Gladiator has a boat motor because the 3.0L diesel is used in marine applications.
