Recieved a new Jeep survey and this time it was about the windshield.

Seems like they may not included a folding windshield in the next generation. I assume this because they asked how often I fold the windshield and why.

The other questions all had to do with cameras projecting on the windshield for offroading. Where I would like to have cameras ect

Seems interesting... However, not sure if I would ever use them?? But I also said I don't need BSM And yet I use it all the time so... šŸ¤·šŸ½ā€ā™‚ļø

The man
It’s iconic (the windshield) but after the YJ it became too many steps to fold the windshield in my opinion (removing wipers..etc).

Also I’m old I don’t even want to the touch screen in the 2024 and up…looks ridiculous. let alone anything projected on the windshield. I always look at this unnecessary technology as…how will it hold up or look in 30 years. I’d like an option for no screens or at least the smaller one from 2023ish timeframe.

It’s probably all about the ongoing ā€œdomesticationā€ of the Jeep brand. Many times manufacturers, in an attempt to expand their customer base, try to tweak little things like wind noise, road noise etc. The drawback for many of us that prefer Jeeps in general, warts and all, get left out. If more buyers would truly understand what they are getting in terms of the most capable off road vehicle in the world (in my opinion), ā€œgood for the mall and the crawlā€, and do their own research they would realize if there are little things they don’t like for whatever reason, and aren’t willing to live with that ā€œfeatureā€ well then because Jeep has such a plethora of aftermarket options, upgrades and ā€œfixesā€ they can tweak the vehicle themselves. Personally, I think overall, with the current customer base and potential buyers in the pipeline Jeep would be better off just doing what they’re doing; but then again I’m no marketing expert either.

It may be the begining of the end for the wrangler.
Look at the abomination of the Cherokee.

Personally I'd rather bring back vent windows and put the fold down windshield to bed, but then
there's that word 'iconic' again, vestiges of WW II etc. Simply put you can't please everyone but
you can try to please yourself. I do agree they made lowering the windshield too complicated,
and a single pane is more expensive to replace than two, but we'll never see those again either
(I think it has to do with cleared area of the wipers partly). When my first windshield was shattered
by a stone insurance would not pay for an OEM pane but only for a 'generic', meaning I would
lose my Jeep on the trail at the edge. Big deal you may say, but I say it is; who cares what I say ?
I've read poor reviews on Gorilla glass too. Anyhow folding down just seems to invite more
opportunities for glass damage. I did note they changed the windshield angle a bit vs the JK,
I'd suggest they make it more like my '50 Plymouth (which is also a split windshield). Food for thought.

Not sure how the windshield is hard to fold.., wipers come off, 4 bolts done.

And I think the reason they are considering on removing the folding windshield option is because not enough people do it, plus it would open up their intentions, as it wold seem from the survey, to add HUD for different cameras to be projected on the windshield.

It’s a friggin Jeep, not an F-35. Do we really need HUDs and all that stuff? Take it back to basics or make 2 different lines of Jeeps. One for people who actually Jeep Jeeps and one line for those who crawl around parking lots and want 22s and HUDs and super duper espresso machines in the glove box and update you about your social media crap.

Just my $.02

@Bandit’s Lair that was my thinking. I don't want all that stuff on my windshield. The front facing camera is cool but even that I hardly use. Might as well just take the cyber truck rock crawling if you want all that stuff. Give me a v8, locker options on non rubi models and rubber floors. Not more cameras

I dunno, an espresso machine in the glove box does sound tempting. 😁

What's espresso and why does it need its own machine? 🤣

I have only put the windshield down a couple times on previous wranglers to see what it takes to do it. I did not see any benefit to having it down when the roll cage still sticks up although it is easier to replace the frame if damaged. I would not miss it if it did not fold. Projecting on the windshield seems to be a step backwards from having a dash display or a screen in the dash. Hopefully they do not try to add guidance of what line to take on a trail.

never put mine down. probably never will. but if you give an inch, they'll take a mile so I'd definitely vote fold-down stays.

Back in our YJ days…. We had the windshield down a few times, but only during offroading trips. I will note… we had a rollcage built behind the windshield and around the cab area.

Honestly? I wouldn’t care if the windshields didn’t go down. Even for offroading, you’re better off with more ā€˜roll cage / roll protection’ than the novelty of putting it down. However…..I’d be concerned about the overall re-engineering of the body and still allow the doors/tops to come off. Because NEVER EVER get rid of that (removing doors/top).
