Went out and tried to turn it over and nothing it clicked a few times then started flashing all kind of messages saying the jeep was in drive and some other stuff. It got stuck in the run position on the stop/start button and I had to unhook the battery to get everything to reset. The auto start/stop feature hadn't worked in about 3 or 4 weeks now, I think maybe that battery is dead and that's the issue. Seems like everything else is getting good power except the starting system. 57,000 miles on it and almost 3yrs of ownership and this is my first major issue.

You guys think that's the issue and if so should I let the dealership deal with it or is it pretty easy to replace that second battery. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. I'm headed back to the house now to try to jump it off and see what happens.

It's battery replacement time. You're past the 3/36, so warranty won't cover it. The dealer will charge you anywhere from $500 to $900 to replace both batteries.

Go to Autozone and get a AUX14 for the ESS battery, and then to Costco or Sam's Club for the 94R (H7) primary battery.

There are several threads with some videos in the Battery section on swapping the ESS battery.

Does both of them have to be replaced or just the ess one. Dealership just told me $535 to replace both, not sure how much they cost but that seems reasonable to me to keep from Messing with it

You can probably get by with just replacing the ESS battery, but the primary will eventually need replaced. It's usually best to replace them both at the same time.

The ESS battery is $100 at Autozone. You have to go in through the fender, or take out the fuse box to replace it. The primary battery is $190 at Sam's Club, $230 at Autozone. It is fairly easy to replace.

Considering the time and labor to replace, $535 total cost for both batteries is probably acceptable if you don't want to hassle with it.

Appreciate the responses, now got to figure out my best options. The top battery is a no brainer but that ess battery replacement is what I'm not sure about doing myself.

I'm getting to that point, myself. My batteries have not failed, yet, but are over three years old. I've been checking prices and where they are actually in stock for purchase.

I did see a post some time back where someone took the ESS battery and stuffed it in next to the primary on the battery tray. The optional H7 is a little bigger than the standard H6 battery, so I may not have enough room to do that, but I'm going to look at it when I do change the ESS battery.

Check the Installation Video from Genesis for their dual battery system. It shows how to pull the fuse box and remove the ESS battery that way. It is supposed to be better through the fender, but some of the clips usually get broke in the process.

I just watched one on YouTube that showed how to do it by removing the fuse box. Seemed like a little work but not to bad. I feel like they could of come up with a better place for that battery but I guess it is what it is. I'm gonna give it a shot, took the day off now to commit to it so hopefully I can avoid some bloody knuckles. Now time to locate a ESS battery.

Good luck with it. I'm hoping for cooler weather before I have to replace mine.

Mine did the same thing. I took it to the dealer yesterday and they replaced both batteries under warranty. Lucked out because I had 35,600 miles. It’s all good now.
Yeah I'm out of warranty, 57,125 miles on mine. I just jumped it off and it fired up. Letting it run for a little bit and hopefully can get enough charge on it to hold while I locate a battery and run grab it. Luckily AutoZone, Advance, and O'Reilly are all within a 5 minute ride from my house.

I went through two AUX batteries before I decided to delete. Isolated the ground and ran the positive to the main battery. Replaced the main battery with an Odyssey. haven't had an issue since.

That sounds pretty easy. No other tricks you had to do?

I chickened out and brought it to the dealership. They said $188 to replace the small battery. I'll just have them throw one in and then have Advance put the big battery in since they will drop it in for free. It was going to be $112 for small battery any ways, for $76 more I'll happily let the dealership put it in, my times worth more than that. The $536 quote was with a $87 diagnosis fee because it's out of warranty. I just took it by advance and had them test it for free. What the heck, $87 to test a battery, SMH on that one.

Advance said the big battery seemed to be ok, so I'm gonna get the small one replaced and then see what happens.
