They are overstocked at AZ dealers. They wouldn’t even give me 47k for mine in a trade back to a JKU. It’s same as new, 13k miles and about 68k into it retail, still under bumper to bumper warranty.

Id say 6 months ago I might have gotten near $60K now I’d be lucky to get $52k selling it myself. The words out, these are not the most reliable vehicles out there. Stellantis is killing the jeep brand as we know it for off-roading and it’s right about there. LOL actually I’d say it is there.
Dealer overstock is more the likely culprit here over reliability concerns. Try going out of your market to trade your Gladiator. You may have more luck where there aren't many gladiators

I do not disagree with your assertion of quality issues but Jeep has been dealing with that for the last 15+ years with the Wrangler and now Gladiator to some degree but they continue to sell in mass regardless.

The market is just correcting for the last two years of bizzarro world vehicle pricing. A 30% drop from retail price for your two model year old vehicle is about what I would expect in normal times.

Having done it on my last two Gladiators, I know that kiting high equity into the next vehicle is over.
This is a more likely scenario. High inflation combined with high loan rates are driving people out of the market. Also, Jeep has the highest number of days inventory of all manufacturers according to the other video I posted. The used car market pricing and High Dealer markups on new cars is unsustainable.

I thought Ben’s video was a little “click baity”. He usually does a nice job reviewing vehicles but every now and then he seems to go off of his own track. I assume in those cases he doesn’t have anything new to review and is desperate for content.

We, as consumers, are funny… Think about how many decades Jeep has been successful without stuffing Hemi’s into their vehicles. Now that they have done so in the Wrangler, it’s become a requirement in the minds of many folks. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with offering it as an option but the current powertrains in the JT’s are more than adequate (for someone running up to 37” tires, like myself). The 3.6 mated to the 8-speed auto actually does a nice job producing a more powerful driving experience than the specs would have you believe. I’ve had CJ’s that I’ve put Chevy 350s in (when I was a younger man, in my 20s), so I get it.

I also always have a one ton diesel truck, to tow our fifth wheel and other heavy toys with. I am also amused by the constant diesel torque war between manufacturers. It’s almost shameful to say that you bought a new diesel truck that doesn’t have at least 1000ft/lbs of torque these days. No one seems to remember older diesel trucks, with half the torque, that were able to tow the same kind of trailers just fine. We’ve been trained to want, and expect, more… All the time.

I personally bought the JT because after more than a decade of not having a Jeep and driving BMWs and Range Rovers while climbing the ladder and doing “corporate things”, I wanted to get back to the kind of simple fun I’d always had in my Jeeps of the past. The 4 door Wrangler was high on my list! To me (and my set of needs) the Gladiator is a 4 door Wrangler with a very usable bed, making it MUCH more versatile! That’s how I look at it and in doing so, I find it to be just about perfect. I often have small truck tasks that don’t require the diesel 3500. The Gladiator is perfect in allowing me to complete those regular tasks while still enjoying all the benefits and fun factor of the Wrangler.

I hope Jeep sticks with the Gladiator! It’s a great addition to the Jeep fleet and offers something that no one else really does. It doesn’t need to out sell the F150. As long as it continues to scratch an itch that no one else can, they’ll sell plenty.

What you're missing is the same sales figures for GM, Ford, and Toyota. This really means nothing unless you see those as well. And, I've read reports about GM and Ford ceasing production of their pickup trucks for a while....it could just be a trend in the market. Everybody is gaga over battery operated vehicles, and let's face it, a pickup is not the most efficient platform for that.

On you tube, you can see Stadium parking lots full of new Ford Trucks.... waiting for chips or something....

I'd also look at the new vehicle market across brands. It's probably the worst time in history to buy a new vehicle. I know from personal experience. I was looking to replace my wife's Yukon, the prices are as high as Giraffe balls.
I dunno, giraffe balls are pretty high! Noggin knockers.

I bought my 2022 JT overland because I needed a small truck. I'm retired construction worker so I don't need a full size truck any longer. I owned 2 1500 Rams in recent years. So I went looking at midsized trucks, now I'm not a Ford fan(looks) so I looked at Chevy, Gmc ans Jeep. Now I have a 2017 jku Rubi recon that I love. So the Gmc At4 with cloth had a sticker of $54k, the Chevy wasn't on the lots near me and my Jt with leather, tow package and hardtop, spray in bedliner ect had a sticker of $54k with a $2500 rebate. For me, a no brainer, ( but I'm biased b/c of the jku) it has been a decision I haven't regretted in the least!

Recent 2023 Glarubicon 6 speed. I bought the gladiator because it’s a more unique midsized truck, available in a manual, is a convertible and with the leftovers discounts was more than competitively priced. If you like the look, which I do, there isn’t anything else like it.

I don’t get the hate for the 3.6, though it would be better with some lower end torque. 350hp/350tq would be ideal. It’s a little odd in a pickup making power at 5500rpm with a manual transmission, but it also makes for some fun driving. If it was such a dog it wouldn’t chirp 1-2 2-3 3-4 shifts…..it doesn’t even make bad mpg for a truck. It takes getting used to the fact that it likes to live in the high rpms. I feel like they could get more out of the 3.6 if they wanted to. A 5.7 V8 would be perfect though….:

The Taco, Zr2 and Ranger are all right there within 2-3 mpg. My bigger complaint is the throttle response. One a dirt road in off-road+ the engine, throttle and everything are sooooo much better. I wish there was a sport mode for 2x. Yes known can get a pedal commander.

I think it rides great. Never driven a Wrangler, but it’s stable, stiff but not uncomfortably so, and not sloppy like my 2000 tundra. It’s almost too soft. Steering could be stiffer but it’s got a good turning radius and stays tight in cornering.

The Tacoma is boring. If they made a manual TRD pro maybe I’d thing about it.

The Ranger Raptor is good but I’m not interested in spending $64,000 for a mid sized pickup.

The Bronco Raptor would be fantastic but I have no interested in spending $90,000 for something that isn’t German, 2 doors, and shared its model number with first responders.

A $44,000 Gladiator Runicon is hard to beat for a midsized.

I clipped down quoting your post. I did the same, in some ways your jump to a JT was the same reason I did my jump over to Jeeps many years ago. I started with my Comanche in 91. But a prerequisite for me was solid axles. Only one in the size range I wanted was a Jeep. It took almost 30 years to get another, with 3 XJ's and my 05 Wrangler Unlimited in between. I might have been jinxed with a magazine many years ago too. ASG on the cover of a issue was the MJ and XJ. Funny I have quite a few things that had articles on them in that magazine.
It's a solid pickup that is capable of doing many things but not overly large or expensive in some trim levels. I could see it fit into many business use if outfitted right. Mine is a Sport S that sold for slightly less off the lot, with a lot of add ons.

This is a year-old thread resurrected, and I actually read all 12 pages just to see what folks had to say. I find the complaints of lack of power, driveability, and shifting issues with the 8spd auto to be... well... interesting.

Having been one of the few people to actually HAVE a ragtop CJ8 Scrambler back in the day... an '81 (first batch, narrow track) with an Iron Duke four banger that maybe pushed out 100hp on a good day and a four speed manual and stock Goodyear M+S tires, according to many of the posts here it's amazing that it could get out of my driveway without a tow truck, much less handle most of Anza-Borrego and the mountains in and around San Diego county. How did I ever manage to make it over the mountains towing a Scamp 13 successfully with a box-stock Jeep and only a hundred horespower? Apparently I should have gone deaf from the wind noise and had kidney damage from the ride. I had that Scrambler from '81 until I finally traded it off in '87. I wish I'd kept it.

Perspective is really important here. My JTO is the quietest, best riding, most comfortable, powerful and competent Jeep I've ever owned. The long wheelbase makes it less desirable for some serious off-roading, but at 69 I really don't care about that any more. I never had the top or doors off my '16 JKUR in the eight years I had it. I don't expect that my JTO will be any different. As a practical light truck for hauling my 5k lb travel trailer, hauling miscellaneous stuff, and occasionally exploring anywhere I choose to go to make photographs, I couldn't be more pleased with it. It'll remain box-stock with the exception of the ARE cap.

A little more perspective.... my '07 FJ Cruiser had a production run of about five years, IIRC, maybe six. My '81 Scrambler had a production run of six or seven years. Niche vehicles have a shelf life and a market saturation point. Jeep may, in fact, drop the Gladiator at some point once new sales plummet. 2024 sales numbers are substantially lower than any year preceding it. And that's normal... especially in these times. I kept my six-speed manual '16 JKUR eight years, and I'd still have it had I not found this particular JTO. Hopefully it'll last me until I don't care to drive any more. Everything about it is a compromise, but they're all good compromises.

My Hottakes based on, honesty not watching the video, cuz I don’t give a shit, but seem to find myself reading some kind of doom and gloom headline about either Jeep or Apple everyday.

-Run to your Jeeps!!!! The sky is falling.

-By my watch it’s right on time for a Jeep is doomed article/video

-A Jeep could possibly be a niche vehicle? No shit. Shame on Jeep for not making an F150 or Honda Accord, or “Compact SUV” when they made the Gladiator….

-Why does everything have to always to be market dominance, quarterly growth, etc. etc., rather then stability and delivering a balance of profit and what the customer wants built at a fair wage? This mentally that Jeep is failing at some market requirement is why every thing is a small crossover, another god damn Marvel movie and a fucking Chilis.

God Bless Jeep for making a weird-ass, kinda ugly, and cool truck. I’d much rather a “hold my beer and watch this” mentality in the boardroom of an auto manufacturer, than a how can we make this billionaire 12 times over, 12.5 times over. At the nuclear power plant, hopefully it’s neither and it’s instead “let’s not irradiate the river, today”
