Looking to see what others are getting on their JTR’s with the stock Mud Terrain tires. After 800 miles I’m averaging per the computer 13.9 mpg. I was curious if that is mostly the MT tires driving down the mpg?

I did around 450 miles before switching out my wheels and tires last Friday. Till then I was getting over 18 with the factory wheels and M/T tires. My secret isn't really a secret.... drive like a someone in their 90's.

I was always the slowest leaving stop lights, I never let the engine go over 3000 rpm's, I would coast when I saw a red light up ahead, and everything else that goes with trying to save gas.

BUT... I was doing this to be easy on all the parts during the break-in and the gas milage was just the benefit of slow careful driving. I know if I was REALLY trying I could be close to 20 mpg.

Also, I know its lame and we got places to go, but I've been just driving it like I'm carrying a bucket of acid with no lid on it.

Hope this helps!

Mixed driving I get around 18 with the ATs and I'm not always gentle with the throttle. 6MT in mine, completely stock

Sport Max Tow with 32" falken MTs on steel rims (about 7lbs heavier setup than the stock MT tires on alloys) is 19mpg combined with lots of hills

Stock JTO, I get 19-20 city driving. I don’t drive it like I stole it, but I’m never last or far behind leaving lights... I let the auto shift at or above 3500 until I get to speed.

My TJ 6sp was same way, wife driving like grandma, it’d get 15-16mpg... me shifting about 3800, it gets17+ (depends on top speed attained)

Jeeps really like being revved and run towards the top of the power curves.

JTM - Less than 800 Miles so barely getting broken in. I am showing 19.2 today in Mixed driving with the MTs. I was trying to be a bit gentle with it today just to see if I could get above 20. I gave up... Ha. I also live at 4500' so that tends to kill mileage a bit.

Either I am driving really hard or I am still in that break-in period that some have mentioned. Hopefully it’ll get a little better over time. 17 would be ideal

Likely still in break in. Give it a couple of WOT pulls to really seat the rings. On my max tow, wasn't till after 800 miles I started to see normalcy. Then at 1200 I put on 3.5 lift and 37x12.5 mt on. Lost about 2 mpg from 18-19 average. 70+ mph kills it regardless. Also saw slightly better mpg doing a dnf to synthetic oil.

Ok...so I’m racking my brain and can’t come up with what WOT stands for? Ha

Wide open throttle lol. I like to do it on the on ramps for highways. Or wait till ur on open street h of road. Just gun it for 20-40 mph or till u get to speed.

I also get lower mileage than others with the stock Mud Terrains, but, I have a pretty heavy foot. I average about 14-15 mph with 12K miles..

Note: Our tire size for the M/T from the factory is set on the JT computer at 33.08 or something like that.... That is not quite accurate for this tire, it is a little shorter than that -- I think that also has something to do with the lower mileage calculations by the computer. My computer is still set to the factory setting. You need a tazer or similar device to change the tire size on the computer. I would suggest testing your mileage by hand and ignoring the computer to see your real results.

Here is a link to some recommendations regarding maintaining the longevity of the Pentastar motor. It was posted by oldhp3. It is an older post on the motor, when the oil recommendation was 5w-20, but, I find it very interesting. It seems WOT is your friend with the Pentastar.

correction, I'm actually getting closer to 17 than 18. My trip computer reads .5-1mpg higher than I calculate, I'm wondering if something is calibrated incorrectly. Most people report very close to computer readings but I am consistently low, but an inconsistent difference.

Sport S 12K miles Dueller AT stock tires and wheels, 6 speed.....lucky to get 16.5 mpg. Range on the mileage always says 325+ at fill up and never get more than 280-285....Have considered turning off the engine start stop function and see if mileage changes.....
