Been debating about staying with 33s or going to 35s on my Overland. How is yours doing with the 3.73 gears and 35s?

I’ve been doing some fairly moderate rock climbing / crawling and was in some pretty messy mud / clay this weekend and have no complaints. Road and trail driving just fine. I’m not as experienced as others, so may not appreciate the differences. I’m looking forward to bigger tests to better judge, but right now seems fine. I’m open to making upgrades to axles and gears if I find necessary, but no need yet. I’ll be anxious for others views.

Further....I think it’s peppy. it’ll spin the 35s accelerating at an intersection and no probs on the road / getting on interstate - no difference that I’ve noticed - if you’re talking more about driving on road. I have a lot of wind here and does feel like driving a billboard (as someone else said) at times on the highway at 70

Ok. I am still undecided, but been thinking about moderate trails, not looking at rock crawling. Maybe just enough to get my daughter and me out to where we can rock climb and camp perhaps. Thanks for the feedback.

I’m no expert, but researched quite a bit and felt safe going up to 35s as it’s my daily drive. I absolutely love the wheels, tires, lift (and do does everyone else that sees it everyday!) after I did it. I don’t feel any performance drop. MPG fell to currently 16.7 after about 1,200 miles on the mods. Ride is stiffer. My only concern is that I don’t have as much experience with jeeps and performance as others...but then again I can go by what I feel and too often everyone is an expert and things get exaggerated. It’s a truck and it has plenty of power to roll tires that are a couple inches bigger than stock

Looks great! This is exactly what I am leaning towards for my rubicon. I like the fact that it still has a slight rake to it. When I put my rack and RTT on it will sit close to level. I was looking at the lift kit and it looks like there is an option for shock extenders. I may be able to keep my factory Fox shocks?

Have you noticed it being more sluggish at highway speeds? I have a Sport S with 3.73 and no lift that I recently put 285-70-17 KO2's on and it seems to have a harder time getting into 8th gear on the highway. Mileage has taken a slight dip - still too soon to know how much. Any kind of hill or headwind seems to effect it more. This is my first Jeep so I'm still getting used to the ride, shift points and all that because it is different than the F-150 I had before.

I feel like accelerating isn’t much different, but yes like others say, it can seem challenged to get into 8th and I can feel higher winds impacting. I’m not on the highway a ton right now and I feel like Ive learned the feel to help it get to 8th. I’ve also just ordered a tazer to reset the tire size for the computer and performance. I’m new to Jeep also (BMW 5 series and X-5s for last 18 years), so a lot for me to learn, but sort of expected interesting results at 70+ MPH

Tires - I knew I didn’t want to go over 35s. I’ll be on the trails, but also my daily drive. So for me, I was always comfortable with tire size

Wheels - As soon as I saw the Teraflex Nomad wheel, I knew it was my wheel.

Lift - this was tough and stressful. So much disinformation about measurements, differences in Rubicon vs Overland and Sport....Still don’t know if I have all the answers, but got comfortable with simple measurements from axle to fender / and gap from tire to fender, etc. I went with Rubicon Express 2.5” / 3.5” lift (Coils / Fox Shocks, Adj trk bar, new sway bars links with disconnects)

My goal was to have an aggressive look, without the tires looking too tucked in, but nothing silly either sitting too tall. I think we nailed it!

That is an awesome set up! Just curious if the tires stick out enough to kick up rocks on your sheet metal?

I did the same to mine and glad I didn't go with the 37's I was considering. Looks great and very practical for day to day use.

They extend about an inch or so (haven't measured) beyond the fender, but I'm not doing anything extreme off road. I haven't been out lately with work and honey do's getting in the way. Hoping to get some time in the mountains in a week or two. I'll give an update then.

Good luck on your build.

1 1-2" leveling kit and bump stops in the front, full factory rear and running 37's. Absolutely love the way it looks and drives! Hardly noticed any difference in get up and go with the 37's, the 8 speed automatic is phenomenal! When I do go with a lift, it will be a minimum of 3 1/2" to help with the breaker over angle!

So glad I saw this post. Ordered my 35" KO2s and been trying to decide on a lift. This was at the top of my list and those pics just confirmed my decision! Nice lookin JT! :like:

@KevMOK what are your impressions of the Rubicon Express lift after 6 months? Which RE kit did you go with (base, Sport, etc)? Was curious if the Fox shocks were tuned for this suspension or generic.

I’m just starting my build and that’s the same lift and tire size I’m looking at. just what I’m looking for. My question is what offset are your wheels and about how much tire sits outside the fender
and in case you weren’t aware. It looks Really nice
