I love how he was smart enough to get the giant stump perfectly into the bed, but not smart enough to think about what a couple tons of wood impacting his truck might do. This is why there are Darwin awards.
From the looks of that poor truck it's been through worse

I’ve got proximity locking on my JT and it also does the tailgate.
Wait a minute... I read through the whole forum hoping someone would ask you to explain a little further! Haha!

I'm curious if your proximity lock is something that can be installed?? I have been searching for a way to incorporate a version of proximity unlocking.. I have heard of systems that you install, and then carry a small fob on your key chain.. it will unlock the doors as you get within range and then lock when you leave that range.. is that what you e got?? Thanks!

What he MAY mean is that proximity locking system as per factory JT will unlock the tailgate but not FROM the tailgate.
It will lock the tailgate but not FROM the tailgate.
So if he approaches the driver door and touches the back side of the driver door handle, it will unlock the tailgate.
But there is no sensor on the tailgate handle - so it can't be done FROM the tailgate.

So he either means
he has an after-market setup that will operate like you suggest with a separate fob using blutooth or similar,
or
he's referring to the fact that the factory unit does unlock and lock the tailgate from the front doors.

So far no one here that I've seen has actually INSTALLED an after-market setup in a JT - just talked about it a lot.

Yea.. I figured he may be talking about the regular factory one.. but the use of the word "proximity" had me thinking that he may be talking about something else! So I'm crossing my fingers that someone out there may have found a system that would work... I keep crossing my fingers that someone knows of a system that I could install.. keeping them crossed!

You and ME both! I've been watching these threads closely - HOPING - even if it's after-market and works well with the Jeep JT security and body control module. I'm kicking myself for not catching that the sales guy didn't get that box checked on our order after we said we wanted proximity locks anyway. He should have checked that - but I should have looked to make sure it was there.
Tired of dragging that 5 pound football of a fob out to unlock doors! And if something works with the tailgate, GREAT!

Got about 1k miles on my JT, and my main complaint is that the keyless entry doesn't work on the tailgate. Has anyone figured out a way to do this? Most of the time that I would want keyless entry, would be when I'm carrying something to put in the bed and don't have a free hand to fumble around with the keys to unlock it. :(
2019 Wrangler does have a sensor in the rear swing gate. I do wish they added the sensor to the tail gate of my Glad.

I probably watched this for 5 minutes wth was this guy thinking?!
He was thinking: "I got Ripped Off!! My proximity sensor doest unlock my tailgate."

Then "it" happened.

Not having that is like not having a 2 dr gladiator. There isn't a real big market for it. I haven't seen a lot of people ever complain about having a keyless entry sensor on a truck tailgaite. Ever! I guess if we all used the tailgate as much as we used the doors it would be necessary. I ride in the front but not in the bed. It would be nice, but not necessary.

Factory proximity system - works as stated by touching the front door handle.

Coming from 2 Toyota's that I had to install pop n lock to have the tailgate lock, this jeep is the shit. My tailgate locks when everything else locks. When I touch the door handle, everything unlocks. Proximity at the tailgate should be reserved for heaven.
