Went hiking today at Germantown MetroPark and made a loop. My keys were in my back pack. When I got back to my truck, I was able to unlock the Jeep and opened he tail gate to have lunch. I got ready to go, closed my he tail gate and the truck locked. I have a solid cover and don’t want to destroy it. Luckily I have my phone and was able to call AAA.
Use the Jeep app to unlock it

I’m sorry to hear this happened but I really appreciate you posting it. I just came in from checking tire pressure, etc to go for the first mtb ride tomorrow and I always carry my giant friggin Jeep key in the pocket of a small hydration pack. I can see myself 100% doing exactly what you did tomorrow after my ride. 😳
I like the giant Friggin Jeep key fob. Because I got Giant Friggin Man Hands and those little wimpy keys are hard to use. My Nissan Frontier the buttons are small and I always hit the wrong button..
The end.

I like to hang the spare key under the hood which of course is not lockable on the gladiator or wrangler.

Ford gives it to you for free. Probably several others too.

You can also unlock your jeep with your phone using the Jeep App.

It's a common mistake and exactly why I went to a key guy whom made me a spare fob. I keep the fob in a faraday bag and inside a very good magnetic box on top of the frame next to the spare tire.

Considering the cost of a extra fob plus the programing that's bit more than a few dollars.
I have a 3rd complete key that I keep at home for when I really lose the key. But the fiat/Chrysler blank key's have done the trick for the times I just need to get my coat out of the truck or unlock the rear seat to grab the jumper cables.

The guy gave me a break, I did not go through the dealer. He had everything and if I recall it was just over $200 bucks.

Retired. Finally !!
I have two fobs. Of course my used Freedom only came with one, so I gulped hard and bought another. Even though that fob is a big honker and you'd hear it if it fell out of your pocket, even on sand (sarcasm), whenever we go somewhere for a while, I always give my wife the spare. If I lose mine, she has hers. If she loses hers, I'll bitch and complain until the day we die, of course, but at least we won't be stranded. We always split up the keys no matter what vehicle we are in.

To make mine more "grabbable", if that's even a word, I tied a 6" long OD green paracord cobra knot on it. I've been doing that to all my keys/fobs since I don't know when.

Yeah, I attached my mothers big, metal brass heart keychain to one of my fobs. Theres no way on earth you can miss the clatter of that mid-70s, 3-inch wide chunk of metal clattering to the ground, or even jangling in your pocket/bag.

I just keep mine on a D-Ring on a belt loop. It’s out of the way of my pockets and it’s a quick check to feel if I’ve got them.

Got a cute little case for my fob with a lanyard that is screwed to the case so it’s secure. Then I clip it to my belt loop so I can feel it and semi-obsessively check it.

Same here. And as a multi-Jeep family, I try to color-coordinate the D-rings to the Jeep color, so we never grab the wrong one.
