I've been reading about this, so I decided to look under and sure enough, right rear axle seal (built 4-21) is leaking! I really think someone should have gotten to the bottom of this by now!

I could not agree more.....this is far too common now to be a random event. Something systematic clearly went wrong here.

Bummer. Evidence of seepage at the rear passenger side nearly covers the inside of my rim. This is the first new vehicle I’ve ever purchased. Should I keep driving it or park it until the local dealership checks it out?

2021 Sport S max tow (ordered)
Mileage: 740
Built: 2-21
MDH: 022621

Should be fine to drive. My dealer let me drive mine between diagnosis and replacing the part two weeks later.

On mine, the dealer's service techs got the replacement seals in pretty quickly, but other parts were out of stock/backordered. They won't have a replacement control arm in for several weeks.

Rubi is still drivable, but there's that enjoyable intermittent 'popping' noise. Took my buddy for a ride last week so he could verify the 'popping.'

He hears it, and the dude gives me a WTF? look and sez: ... "Wow, my Tacoma never does that! Must be some kinda Jeep-thang." :surprised:

Relatively painless replacement, I imagine at a dealer it would be even easier.

Interesting. I figured it was a relatively painless job since the dealer only documented .8 of an hour for it. I wonder why he didn't get it taken care of under warranty. ETA: Never mind, I just read that he upgraded his axle shafts.

Yes. Mine's a Rubi and had that problem, in addition to the 'popping' noise when turning or backing up, which was not caused (apparently) by the cracked axle or seals.
What was the determined cause of your popping noise while turning the steering wheel? Mine does this too. Dealer didn’t do anything about it though.

Edit: Nevermind. I just found your other post. Control arm replacement fixed it. Good to know.

Yes, but I should've added a bit more detail.

It took the tech about three trys with test driving to isolate and identify the source of the popping. He finally used some type of listening device attached to the underside in the back (forgot what the Service Manager called it).

Unfortunately the control arm was on backorder.

Oh wow. I’ll probably end up upgrading to an adjustable aftermarket option anyway. Thanks for the details.

Are the JLs having this problem also?

Keeping an eye on mine that was built in the previously stated range.

About to go pick up mine from the dealer. Was told the rear axle & seal assembly is on national backorder...

Well hopefully this continues to surface as an issue on the radar for FCA so that they look into it. Clearly it is more than a random occurrence.

Went to the dealer today, said exactly what I'd expected; yes it's leaking, it's OK to drive, parts ordered, we'll give you a call....
