When I had my Xterra (same platform) I made sure to do the 'breather' mod to my rear dif for this same reason, well that and the fear of sucking in water.Trend seems to indicate a fairly early (manufacturing issue ?) leaking rear axle seal issue, often RR; I have my 2021 Jeep Gladiator on factory order - I am starting to be concerned about this issue. For what it is worth, my 2015 Nissan Frontier Pro4X had a leaking seal on the RR (@120,000 miles -Dana 44 rear axle); dealer blamed a clogged/stuck rear axle breather (on the top of the RR side of the axle) ... claimed that the stuck/clogged breather caused pressure to build up, blowing out the seal. Had to replace the complete axle assembly, out of warranty of course. Could there be a faulty breather issue causing these Jeep Gladiator leaking RR axles ?
I'm not sure where the D44 has its breather, but it may be worth looking into I suppose.
