Yeah kinda figured that out due to how dry it was there but wet behind it. I just figured it was the outer part the bearing being pushed out because the bearing is starting to fail maybe. It’s been making a noise that sounds like the tire rubbing the fender liner but it’s not. Thanks for the information and picture guys??
So there’s this guy that got a new pull off shaft because someone was upgrading their axle shafts. So he was swapping it out but before he put the new one in he felt a little sharp piece of metal. Slag from the manufacturing process?

pic out of focus and can't really see much....but yeah a sharp edge left over from machining could certainly mess up a gasket/seal. This could be the closest thing to a possible explanation we have seen so far....at least in my opinion.

I can say that i have probably taken different jeeps to at least 8 different dealerships over the years and i have never gotten anything more than the pencil whipped sheet they print off and had you with your keys. I would love to get some kind of video proof they were actually doing the work.

I think the fact that there was grease on the front tire was the most frustrating part of the whole thing. I know finding good help is hard right now but come on. If i wouldn't have taken the wheel off myself how long would it have been before the issue was found and how much more damage could have been done...
Well apparently this is starting to become a thing, videos of service work.
My son texted me a video of his first included oil change on his 2021.5 Mazda CX-5. He said his vehicle didn’t get into the shop until an hour after his scheduled appointment. Well no wonder, they are dicking around taking videos.?

Talked to my service department on Saturday and they pulled it in the shop looked it over and drove it. Told me it’s ok to drive for now. Part had a tracking number 10/13 but never shipped and nobody knows where it went. I brought it home and this morning pulled the passenger side wheel, brake caliper, and rotor off. Fairly oily on parking brake shoes and brake pads. You can see where the outer seal has pulled away but I couldn’t see any oil there. Anyway I put it back together and drove it some. It’s not making any noise at all like it was when I parked it and quit driving it back on 10-6. Here’s a couple pictures I snapped.

My 2021 Sport S ecodiesel gladiator (built 10/2020) was into the dealership for service a few weeks ago. They did an oil change/ tire rotation under the jeep wave plan. The didn't mention any issues when i picked up the truck. Last night I was installing aftermarket wheels and tires. I noticed the inside of my front passenger wheel was black from grease when i took it off. when i got around to the rear passenger wheel i noticed some grease as well. Drove the truck home last night and now there is already grease on Rear Passenger wheel. I called the dealership frustrated this morning because this wasn't brought up 2000 miles ago when they had the wheels off. I have a service appointment set of for 11/9. I am stopping by today to have them inspect it and so they can get parts ordered. We will see how this goes... This will be the jeeps 2nd major warranty issue in the last year. I had the starter replaced with 300 miles on the truck.

Stopped by the dealership and they confirmed what i thought. Luckily i am still able to drive it while i wait. I spoke with my father-in-law who has the gladiator that came off the line directly in front of mine and he checked and has the same issue. Seems like Jeep should be doing something proactive about this. Or at least having the service departments looking for this when they are in for service.

Exactly, the problem itself is much less of a concern than the half assed response. With such complex systems, I accept that the manufacturer / final assembler doesn't control everything, so shit happens and you make the best of it. But to not even have a TSB out yet to dealers (at least as far as I know) or parts ramped up in the pipeline to address the problem is pretty frustrating and disappointing.

Maybe they are trying to avoid bad press on the heels of the JD Power Award for Initial Quality?‍♂ Otherwise why not acknowledge the problem and communicate it to dealers and customers? At least share the estimated build date range of impacted vehicles, so owners know whether or not they should be more vigilant to check their rear axle for leaks.

Well, it's been more than a week and I did not get a call from service on the status of the ordered rear axle so I decided to visit the dealership today. After 15 mins of waiting for the parts dept to confirm I was told the part is in! Yes! Install appt in 2 days.
By the time they remove the axle I hope they carefully check the condition of the rear passenger side brake.

Well, mine was repaired for the SECOND time today. I took a peek under before I went in to get the keys, and found that the tech couldn't even be bothered to take the two minutes to spray some brake cleaner and wipe with a rag to clean up all the seepage. No pride in their work, could care less. Literally just did the bare minimum to pull the old axle shaft assembly and insert the new one. You don't fix a leak without cleaning up the entire area while you are doing the job. Just total laziness. I mentioned it to the service manager when I went in to get the keys. He was aplogetic, and sent a kid out with a can of cleaner and a rug to clean it up in the parking lot....but of course still rubs me the wrong way becuase I know darn well they didn't clean the inside surface of the dust shield facing the rotor while it was all apart....and peopel wonder why I won't even take my Jepp in for the "free" Jeep wave oil changes.

Let's hope the second time is a charm!

I think his brother works at my local McDonald's and cannot get the cheese even half-way centered on my filet o fish sandwich but thinks he deserves $15 an hour.

World needs to go back to a time where you either did a good job or you starved for being lazy.

The point isn't the cheese - the point is lazy people not paying attention, not doing a good job, but want rewards for showing up.
The cheese is just an indicator of someone who doesn't give a rip, no pride in their work or results.

I've worked a lot of customer service type jobs in my youngster days. I've seen a lot of people get accused of being lazy when in reality there are issues caused by the companies behind the scenes. It makes it easy for the problems to continue on when people just rip the employees for problems they have no control over. I guess I have different expectations though. Usually when I go to McDonald's it's because I myself, am too lazy to prepare my own meal. Which would make it very ironic for me to fret over laziness because my cheese isn't centered. If I go into the grocery store and there's 3 lanes open but a line backing up the center aisle, im not going to raise my voice at the cashier. Why? Because the company is only budgeting enough people to run 3 lanes. Some people though choose to cause a scene because they know for a fact there's a plethora of people sitting around just refusing to open because they are lazy.
