Leather vs cloth

Many a time I've had the AC or Heat blowing with the tops off depending upon the weather. Love driving with the freedom panels off. That's why I went to the sunrider top so it's easier to do so.

I have thought about getting one of those myself and came close to ordering one with my 2022 JT order.

It's my favorite upgrade, well worth the money. Took 30 minutes to install and my Freedom Panels are sitting in their bag in a closet.

Deciding factor to me is leather gets the rear flip down cupholder/elbow rest, cloth doesn't. With kids that was a must for me.

I don't even have kids, but the extra cup holders come in handy. The wife I use them to swap out drinks on road trips since the other ones are normally filled with knickknacks or not easily available due to luggage being piled in. But overall, does make the back passenger seating area a little better since let's be honest here, it's not the greatest.

Definitely a personal preference. I choose the cloth seats as i cannot stand leather seats, I don't like the sound they make, cold in the winter and hot in the summer. I don't like my legs sticking to them when I'm wearing shorts and they make me sweat more in my personal opinion. though I did put Carhart seat covers over my cloth ones and have treated me well now for 2 years.

I had ACC in my 2020 Ram Rebel. In that vehicle, I felt Ram had not yet got the system right. Way too sensitive, too slow to adjust at time, too quick to slam on the brakes at other times.

I skipped the option when I ordered my Mojave. I figured that thousand dollars or $1500 could be spent better elsewhere.

It would be nice to have a couple times a year I drove out to Moab or other long trips. Oh well.

No, not really. Might take a minute to realize hey, we were going 77, it still says 77 is what I have it set at, but the speedometer says 75 - ok, lane change............... but it's literally seconds if it happens
With my extreme ADHD, if you are in my way, I WILL go around you. I don't do slow without huge frustration. My wife hates it. Luckily I've mellowed a bit over the years.
So if I find that there's something preventing me from going my set speed, it's extremely rare that I accept it. I slip into a slot in the traffic in the left lane that I might fit into, pass, and go back over.
I guess I'm surprised to see others blame the ACC for going slow.
It's the driver that determines where you are and how fast you go. ACC doesn't do it.
If someone was using standard CC - would they smack into the rear of the vehicle ahead of them?????? And if not - why not?
It's the same awareness, or should be - why aren't people blowing into the back of a slow vehicle with standard cruise? It's the same "attention" or awareness. If a person sees a vehicle ahead of them and realizes they are approaching it way too fast, they react and button down the cruise or tap the brakes to disengage cruise - why not realize that you've come upon a vehicle and slowed down?

I can't shut my brain down - a million inputs happening all the time, impossible to ignore.
Only when my EDS hits that I might not realize something around me on the highway and then it's time to pull over and power-snooze it off.
there is no ignoring a slower vehicle - it must be dealt with.

It's very easy to tell if you're going to rear end someone. Not as easy to tell if you're going 2 MPH slower.

Standard CC has been around forever and ACC is new. Probably going to take a little time for people to get use to it.

I have had both in both Jeeps and a Colorado ZR2. I like them both, but on long trips in the summer I will take cloth seats. Leather cleans easier but not by much. My old butt seems to prefer cloth so when I bought my Gladiator that is what I wanted.

Leather is by zero means more stain resistant. Once a stain soaks into leather it’s in. Also smells seem to stick more once they’re in there.
Cloth can be cleaned easily.
Ive long ago abandoned leather. Unless they’re heated and cooled seats no thanks. Less durable and more maintenance. my wife’s car has light colored leather with all sorts of stains and scuffs I can lighten up but not get out. And the cleaning I did do probably cut their life down.
That said, most of the time I can’t get away from them in the packages I want, but I’m glad to be back in cloth.

Depending on the stain, most can be removed if you know the tricks. When you have cats, and grandkids and other family around, you learn 'em.
We've had our share of leather - not just in vehicles. Never once had a vehicle with a stain I could not get out of the leather, but have had fabric stains I couldn't get out. Including the original covers from the PC seats in my car.

Cloth can be cleaned easily.

Then you've really never truly had a stain. Let Pickle barf on it shortly after a meal, you will NOT get it out. (besides the stuff actually getting into the foam below the fabric - EWWWW)

I've got a few friends who would love for you to get the stains out of their rare Pierre Cardin seats in their Javelins and AMXs. You could make some serious money considering what those interiors are worth.

test drove a mojave with leather, and one without.
Did not like the leather.

The only leather seat I would consider is perforated leather with cooling. I've had that in another vehicle and it wasn't miserable in the summer. Had heating also, so wasn't bad in the winter. Otherwise, just not comfortable.

I have ACC in my wrangler, and while I like it, it's not something I need. I can't let myself trust it. My foot is always hovering over the brake anyway, and I'm always looking to pass people going slower than what I set it to...so I might as well be using standard CC. I have had errors with it as well. It's slammed on the brakes when someone was in a lane to my right, making a right turn. It's freaked out and beeped at me when someone was slowing down in front of me but I had everything well under control. It has beeped, failed, and turned off on me once. Not fun.
Plus, the cost just to get that is insane. $2,600 on a new build.
I hate the parksense, never notice the little yellow light on the mirror, and obviously can't trust the ACC stop/warning.

Interesting - the total opposite of our experiences. Never any issues, it just works, and have had it on 4 different Jeeps.
On days like today, the AC is on so doesn't matter what seats are in the vehicle, windows up, roof on, no use torturing ourselves in the extremes. When you walk out to the garage and are sweating walking that 20 feet, it's roof on, panels in, windows up. I didn't even like riding my motorcycle when the weather was like we often have. (it didn't have a cloth seat, either)

I suspect for some, or many, or most, or a few, it's not heavily weighed on comfort as much as it is the open air factor. The free feeling, air moving all around - even if it's not comfortable. Sometimes we enjoy things that aren't the most comfortable. Like a Queen concert I went to years ago. Hurt like hell - ears ringing for hours afterwards, lines of people trying to get into the restrooms - not to pee, but to grab paper towels or toilet paper to stuff into their ears. And people were loving the concert.
My first wife reported the lines when she got up to actually use the facilities but couldn't get close because of the lines of people going in after toilet paper to stuff in their ears.

Having had both, I can’t really tell the difference comfort wise, but I do appreciate the Nappa leather quality and looks. I’ll throw a towel over them if the Jeep is sitting in the sun on a naked day, otherwise the leather will turn into a stove top.

If I was to buy new or order again, I’d go cloth seats and have custom PRP seats made with the money I saved. I don’t care about my rear seats and the PRP seats are so much nicer than the stock ones.

I would never get ACC in a JT or wrangler. The windshields crack too easily and they are a lot more expensive to replace with the ACC.
