Greetings all,
Just looking to get a little feed back from savvy jeepers. Jeep clutch recall issue should be addressed before the end of the year which that be the case dealer inventory will be addressed first allowing them to sell old stock. I am looking at some 2023 Mojave 6 speed manuals , hard tops, that have been in dealers hands for over 370 days. Sitting out in the open for over a year what would you expect to be shot, batteries, wipers, paint issues etc. Am I missing anything? If the tires haven't rolled for over a year could that be an issue? I am very vehicle savvy but I have never owned or bought a vehicle, a new vehicle that sat for a year. Anybody with any experience of a similar situation. Dealers near and far (500 mile radius of Va.) are routinely offering 20% MSRP off which has crushed the used values, hence why I am looking at new for the same kind of money.

Since the clutch has been a problem since 2019, I doubt Jeep has come up with a recall fix.

Probably another band-aid fix they hope carries it out of warranty.

As for how much of a deduction for units sitting for however long, I imagine there will be a healthy percentage off from the get go. Jeep wants all new Jeeps not 2024 model year off the lots.

I think your biggest concern will be batteries and inspect for rodent intrusion and nesting under the hood. The batteries the dealership will not replace outright before sale if they take a charge and hold but it will be something to look for with increase risk of premature failure but that is what the warranty is for.

Tires I am not so much worried about as they usually ship from the factory overinflated to 45 PSI and most dealerships do not adjust them down until PDI before delivery if they do it at all. I would take any vehicle that has been sitting like this for a pretty extensive test drive as long term sitting of radial tires should even out in about 20 miles or so.

Wipers and paint should not be a issue but still would be prudent to inspect both thoroughly before delivery. Most new vehicle ship with a protective spray coating on them for the paint finish anyways and should provide a small layer of protection.

Lastly, I would make sure everything that is on the window sticker is there at delivery. Vehicles that sit in long term limbo are notorious for salesmen and dealership lot personnel to pilfer and throw in other vehicles to make those sales. Things like floor mat, tool kits and Jeep Trail Recovery bag kits sometimes walk.

That was very good advice, portable stuff disappearing didn't occur to me, great point. I will be going for a good look around a few shortly but no test drives are possible currently.
Very interesting situation.

Like @Hootbro said, look for the details. Not just on the window sticker but things that are not listed. The top hardware kit, tire jack , antennae etc. Flat spots on the tires might be an issue to consider. Batteries should be a warranty item. With flooring aged over 370 days, I would suggest that you are in the drivers seat.

I bought one in Feb 2023 that had been sitting on the dealer lot since May 2022 (also an MT). I haven't had a single issue with it and about to hit 10k miles with lots of variable types of driving. Like others have said, anything mechanical that comes up would be warranty anyway so check cosmetics and then I wouldn't hesitate if the price is right.

Only other thing I would check for that others haven't mentioned:
1. has it been at that dealer the whole time? sometimes dealers do swaps thinking they will have better luck at another location.
2. look closely at hood and roof for hail damage and check weather records if any hail storms went through that area in the time it sat

Dealer had me come in and sign on mine since fix was released. Should be ready to pick next week. Or so they say…..

All good points. Thank you. Yes I've seen dealers bounce stock around to different locations in their networks when they have gone stale.
I heard that a fix was in for the clutch last Thursday but have been unable to confirm it. The factory 800 number just says before the end of the year.

Thank you again all

I would inspect that all item are there but the rest I would not worry about on a new vehicle purchase your bumper to bumper and all warranty starts thecday you purchase so even if it's been on the lot over a year it will not affect your warranty if you see something on your inspection tell your dealer and make note of it. Good luck finding that perfect Jeep

Not sure if it has been mentioned, but I would consider a conversation about that warranty prudent. The start date of the warranty is the build date, normally. Sounds like that new truck is a good ways through the original factory warranty.

The start date of the warranty is the build date
Start date of the warranty is the first in service date and mileage with the new buyer, not the build date. Time starts the day it is bought and mileage from the current mileage when bought.

If there is 800 miles when bought new on the odometer, then the mileage expiration will be 36800 for the bumper to bumper and 60800 for the powertrain warranty

Bird shit. I previously bought a manual JLU that sat for several months. Likely in the same space. I didn't notice it until I was washing one time in the shade. I had to look at it in the shade at an angle but you could see where bird shit had started damaging the clear coat on the hood. They tried to blame me after I only had it two weeks and it sat in the garage most of that time.
