Hi all,
Was installing new performance wipers when I noticed my hoodliner is pretty stained. I have just over 17,000 on the truck and it’s still dealer serviced. Just to be safe I checked all fluid caps and looked for leaks. I suspect what I am seeing is just collected dust from driving old compounded gravel farm roads. However one area of concern is at the back (bottom) of hood following the wiper fluid line there was a powdery white residue (maybe from wiper fluid?) and a yellow green one which I’m sure is pollen. I spot cleaned a couple spots on the liner just to see and the only thing I am uncertain about is the powdery stuff. I included a picture of the engine to show no fluid splatter. Can any one confirm my thoughts? Not worried about the looks so much as just making sure nothing crazy is going on.

Go through a car wash that sprays the undercarriage? I’m focusing on that residue print on the underneath of the hood.

that, or road salt from some slushy day?

Haven’t taken it through a car wash yet (just hand washed) and same with salt roads (not really common down here) though I did think of that as well. The farm does have very compact gravel roads that are pretty fine dust and can make a good mess when wet always have to wash when coming back cause it’s sprayed all over the sides.

That was a common issue on Ram truck hood liners around the 2014-2016 time frame. It was just a bad chemical composition of the liner when manufactured. My 2015 Ram 2500 had the same issue. It was a warranty replacement if in the bumper to bumper warranty period.

I had it on my 22 JTRD. Not as bad as yours, I just used a damp micro fiber cloth with some windex and wiped it off ...

Note: I should have stated:

* At the time of discovery, I had not washed (hand or automatic).

Used any chemicals

Sprayed ANYTHING near the affected areas.

So basically, whatever is causing it... NEEDS NO CADALIST from the user. I have not done anything to cause the issue... If I remember, it was in a couple random places... I will definitely keep an eye on it and report back.

Thanks all for your input I was able to clean it up for appearance and if it happens again is what it is. Not a big deal just wanted to make sure something wasn’t amiss. I had a XTerra that had plastic heat tubing that cracked and would only leak when the engine was reved that was a pain to find!
