Installed the 67 designs driver side phone mount yesterday then proceeded to uninstall the 67 designs driver side phone mount. The mount is pretty awesome and holds my phone great. The windshield on these things is small enough already, toss a medium sized phone in front of it and I can't see *****. Are you guys/girls really driving around with a phone up in the middle of your windshield?

I've read through most of the various phone mount threads but I may have missed a few. There doesn't seem to be much space anywhere in/on the dash for a phone to go but I'm hoping someone else has gone down the exact same rabbit hole and can give some advice. These are the things I'm looking for in a phone mount:
  • Prefer no drilling or adhesive to "visible" dash components
  • No vent clips or blocking the vents
  • Needs to be somewhere on the center stack so I can utilize android auto via usb cable (I use it constantly)
  • Prefer it to be on driver side so it doesn't impose on passenger space
  • Current phone doesn't work with magnetic mounts
  • Phone has to be positioned to be accessible while driving, not block the windshield, buttons, screens or airbags.
  • Dash bars that install across to the grab handles don't work because my CMM mirror mounts are there.
An articulated arm of some sort using the 67d components might work well to get the phone down out of the windshield but I haven't come across anything that isn't frankensteined out of multiple arms and balls.

The ball mount that replace the passenger side grab bar bolts looks like the closest thing to what I need but I don't like it being on the passenger side. Any similar mount positions on the driver side I'm not thinking off?

Anyone got any ideas? If it comes down to it I guess I'll have to figure out my own solution or just keep using the slot between the cupholders.

Over this years I've been a fan of the ProClip mounts. I took my mount out of my JKU, I'll reuse the phone portion, so I just bought a new base mount - I opted for the Extra-Strength Mount so I have the option where above the headunit to place it, and used the attachment bar as a mount point for something like a GoPro, as well as other things like radio mic, etc. Most the photos online show with the smaller headunit, I have the 8.4 - I will post up pictures once I get it next Tuesday.

I'm sincerely trying to help here, but I understand how this post is probably going to come off, so I apologize in advance.

Let's take an image of the Jeep interior and map out all your 'no-go' zones.

No buttons/vents/screens/airbags blocked - Red
No blocking of the windshield - Purple
Not on passenger side - Orange
Must be on center stack - Yellow

You've pretty much excluded every mount point. What's left then? Where would it fit?

I'm genuinely interested in trying to help. Is there a spot on this image you'd see it working that still falls within your guidelines? My top recommendation is what you've already tried or the Bulletpoint mounts. I'm kind of surprised you're leaning away from those.

I have the bulletpoint drivers side mount with the phone "clamp". If I clamp it in the middle of the phone, yes, its above the dash and is in my line of sight. So I clamp it at the top of the phone just above the volume and screen buttons (iphone). Phone top is level with the dash and I can easily manupulate it. Only downside is it blocks the vent, but as youve experienced, beggers cant be choosers.

I checked out the Proclip but it appears to end up with the phone in the same/similar position as the 67d.

I actually angle my vent up to my phone in the summer

When the phone is streaming something and navigating at the same time while it's 110° out, the phone gets hot

No, I'm in complete agreement with you. I don't think what I'm looking for is possible either. I was hoping someone had come up with a miracle solution they just hadn't posted about.

There's a little uncolored space between the red and yellow that I was thinking about earlier. If I could mount a rail similar to the below, or even just a ball, down on the side of the center console I could use the hardware I have to extend the phone up next to the cigarette lighter. I haven't gotten a chance to go out and look at the jeep since I posted this to see if it would actually work.

I tried that second and it sure didn't look like it was a good idea. I have about 1.5" from the top of my phone to the 1st button so the clamp was level with the top of the phone. Have you had any trouble with it like that?

Keep it in your pocket and get a wireless carplay adapter, other than that I use an offroam vent ball and their magsafe holder and still get plenty of air out of vent

Just reread your post so disregard as you addressed most of this

Scosche Proclip XL. No holes, easy to move around, puts the phone at the perfect level about level with the dashboard. Love it, and it’s cheap. If you think that mounting it vertically is too much in your field of view, just position it in landscape mode.

No issues at all. I rock a otterbox case which has a rubber outer shell. The clamp holds it very firmly. The spring in the mount is so strong, it certainly takes some getting used to, but its certainly confidence inspiring.

Help me help you. If you are using android auto, why the need to access the phone too? I have a storage box that hangs off the front of the armrest console that holds my phone. I connect via usb-c cable to the media pod and everything is out of the way. I have a 90* cable so the media pod door is not hang open so much.

I don't know why I need to access the phone but I seem to need to access it more than I should. Usually it's some combination of things that Android Auto just isn't that good at, especially when it's not working right.

As a temporary solution (and maybe permeant) I'm liking this storage box thing. Does it get in the way of the cupholders?

Only on the really big cups that would get in the way of each other if there was 2 any way. Was one of the first mods and I really like it. I haven't even used the 3M tape that came with it as it is not really needed IMO.

Sold! for $13 it'll at least make me feel like I accomplished something until I figure something else out.
