2020 Sport S with 61,000 miles. CEL and lOUD tick. Took it to the dealer and the tech diagnosed a bad lifter (cam follower). They are saying $1000-$1500 but I may tackle it on my own. Just need to source the right parts. Anyone know the part numbers to the passenger side intake cam and followers?

This also interesting. Why would this area be wet with oil?

My JL Wrangler engine used to get wet in that area. I think it was just getting past the o-ring for whatever that sensor is.

As far as PNs here is what a quick search came up with.

Good luck.

This will be more common here as these get a couple of years old....

Does anyone know if the metal lines above my finger in the OP are just coolant lines and can they removed without messing anything up?

If there’s oil in the area pictured, your VVL solenoid (what your pointing at) has a bad gasket. You gotta replace the whole thing, as you should. This is honestly the most likely cause of your chewed cam

I'm researching this topic as I believe I have the same issue going on with the cam. Loud rattling noise right at start up (until oil pressure builds, then it quiets down), and audible ticking while it's running... Taking it in next week to have it looked at by the dealer, since it's still under the power train warranty.

Couldn't find it on his page.

Mine's soon to be replaced on passenger side.
Simple to find the correct part numbers for this date (rather than rely on old lists) = contact Benny with your VIN
He can give you part numbers (and a discounted price)

I don't have the tools to replace it or the knowledge if it's more than just the camshaft.

Just bought my 2021 Mojave last October and within a couple months I started smelling something burning and hearing a new noise from the engine, turned out it was two failed lifters banging into the cam that was casing the noise. Luckily it was covered under the power train warranty. The funny thing is I asked the dealer rep if it was a common issue and told me he hadn't seen that before but yet they had the parts and were able to repair it same day by 3pm, lol

I laugh when I hear that. It is pretty much a cliche by now. That statement must be the first thing dealership service advisors learn on the first day. You are always the first one to them even if 3 people are in the service department waiting area for the same thing.
