I was crossing a water hole with mud bottom. In four wheel high. Traction control off. The water got up to the floor board. I decided not to go any farther. I put it in reverse. I pushed the pedal about half way and it barely moved. Like it had no power at all. Then suddenly it didn’t move at all. I put it in park. Turned it off. Turned it back on. Made sure the traction control was off. Put it in four low. Turned on the rear locker. It packed right out with no issue. Any idea what happened?

This happened to me when pulling out a stuck suburban at the beach: my truck dug down in the sand and there was a lot of tension on the strap and the Jeep wouldn't let me back up. Had to turn it off. Don't recall if I had to take it out of 4WD but might've.
I'm sure someone in here knows what and why.

I thought maybe the wheels were spinning….. they definitely weren’t. lol. I pushed the pedal and it just sat there.

That’s crazy. I have no idea why either. I love the truck. But that’s BS.
You said it was a muddy bottom. My guess is you were stuck in the mud and didn't have enough torque in 4hi to spin out.

Glad everything worked out. I too recommend using 4-LO to let the trans work in your favor. If it happens again, I would recommend not turning the vehicle off if the tail pipe is submerged. There is potential for water to run back into the tailpipe and cause damage to the catalytic converter.
