OK All, Here is the paperwork from the dealership, first they said it was the shifter mechanism, (which they chipped my shifter knob!!). That definitely was not it. Then they said they replaced the transmission and gave me a very vague answer, I wanted to know exactly what happened, They would not tell me, all they (Ricky) would tell me that someone from Auburn Hills came and picked up the transmission. I actually tried to get a hold of the mechanic to personally talk to him. I was blocked.

I’m-a have to disagree there. There is plenty wrong with the Jeep brand- from the bean counters forcing bad engineering solutions, the horrendous service at some dealers, to the obscene option pricing.
the trans is a version of the same unit in the Hilux and Tacoma. It’s as solid as any other Aisin trans.
Don't forget that hideous Springsteen commercial.

Curious to see what update you have for us on this.

Well I dropped it off on 6/7/21. I get a phone call telling me it's, and I quote, internal trans failure!!! Yes!! The exact thing is happening again!! I was told the replacement transmission won't get here (I am in Detroit and the Gladiator is made in Toledo, about an hour and a half away) until 6/16/21. Well the first trans I got 3516 miles out of. The second trans I got 6428 miles. I really hope I can get maybe 10000 miles on this new one!! If this wasn't a new Jeep and under warranty (which they will not extend) I would drop the trans myself and take it to a real transmission shop to see what's really happening!! Wish me luck!! I will keep you all in the loop. Stay tuned!!

Now they are telling me that its going to be 7 to 10 days before the dealership receives the replacement transmission. That means my Jeep will sit in their parking lot for a month. Does anyone know where this transmission is made?? I made a horrible mistake buying a Gladiator!!!!! I'm thinking of leaving Chrysler, Daimler Chrysler, Cerberus, FCA, Stellantis , for a good ole Ford F-150!! and I am an employee!!

Japan. But you'd wait longer than that if they didn't have one in their parts supply chain somewhere.

Man that sucks. I'm looking at ordering a M/T soon, so I'm very interested in hearing more on this, and what you find out with the replacement. Auto isn't an option for me, just takes the fun out of it for me.

If they actually replaced it the first time, I really think there has to be something else going on with the truck (clutch engagement, bellhousing alignment, shifter, etc), for 2 actual trans failure in <10k miles. Especially since I haven't really read about any other threads on this forum with actual manual trans failures. Not that it's consolation with your truck stuck at the dealer.

This is a tough deal, but I wouldn't base my decision on a disaster story on an internet forum. Every make, model, and transmission in the industry has tough situations like this. Hopefully, they'll get this worked out for him. Looks like they are trying hard, but I can only imagine just how frustrating it must be.

I just turned over 47k trouble free miles with mine and I run the piss out of it every chance I get. Why? It's fun. I tow a fishing boat with it too. Today I towed my nephew's 3500lb boat, which is the limit for the Wrangler, including pulling it up a steep launch ramp. No problem. Clutch and tranny felt great, as always. Aisin has an excellent rep with manual transmissions.

You'll be fine. The manual is also a lot of fun on these trucks too. I would not worry about it, unless you start seeing others

I got my MT Overland just shy of 2 weeks ago. I have had a bit of clunking coming out of 1st gear most of the time since 50 miles. I am at 1400 miles now and still hear it. Getting it looked at this Friday from where I purchased it.
Im pretty sure the clunking sound is normal for a manual. The jts dont have quiet manuals, youll notice it more with the doors off too. I had another manual gladiator pull up to me at a red light and he knew mine was a manual because of the shifting sounds. But im curious to know what they said when you took it in?

Yes. The manual does not shift quietly at all. When the top is off or the radio is low, I can hear each and every shift from outside the truck. It's clunky but the shifter feels great. The action is good, and the throws are nice. The shifts are not quiet, buy that shouldn't dissuade you. I love the way the shifter and clutch feel on these trucks. And the rev hang isn't nearly as bad as my old Subaru STIs and VW GLI, or my wife's compass. I've seen others complain about the rev hang, but it's honestly not bad at all compared to the manuals other vehicles have these days. Not to change the subject too much, but I love this transmission.

I agree, but the synchro from 1st to 2nd could be smoother. The transition from other gears are good though.

The shift clunks you hear are not the transmission but the drivetrain slack (driveshaft/diff) unloading and loading. If you shift smoother and use a little more clutch it will be totally silent.

In regards to swearing off FCA/Jeep, it's a toyota transmission so blame them. Every car manufacturer has issues, and most of them share parts/suppliers. I will note when I got my gladiator the shift quality was pretty crap - very notchy, sometimes didn't really want to engage gear, especially in cold weather, etc. Changed to a better fluid and it shifts like a sports car. If you're complaining about the synchros not feeling smooth, it's the fluid.

Nope, because you hear it even when the truck is off and stationary you move the lever between gears. I believe I'm on my 10th manual equipped vehicle (I've never had an automatic). This one shifts louder than most of the others. No big deal, but it's louder. I'm weird, but I kind of like it. It just feels visceral, in a good way. It's nice tactile feedback, but is louder than your average manual. Especially when compared to modern ones.

I definitely don't consider the shifting noise to be that loud. It's a little noisy, but the real noise one hears is the drivetrain slack if they're shifting more aggressively
