Thats my only concern with looking. Did you return it to stock before going and getting it appraised for trade in, or did they let you return it to stock after you did the deal?
Told them I would return everything to stock and they didn’t care. They didn’t even look at the vehicle.

God, I can’t imagine ever paying sticker on a Kia or Hyundai, let alone over sticker.
Me either! She asked for me to help her buy a car, so I developed a spreadsheet with different models with prices at specific dealers ranked with what I thought the best deals were. We planned to go look and them and the next day she calls me the next day to tell me she bought the Telluride. A few days later I was riding with her and pull the window sticker our and saw the "Market Adjustment" on it and I asked her if she paid that and her response was, "Yea, the dealer told me they are hard to get right now."

WTF!?!

I will never pay ADM. Mark the MSRP up and then give me a "discounted" price. Don't tack this stupid s**t at the end.

That's why one of the reasons why I did the .|.. to Toyota.

Years ago when Mitsubishi brought the Lancer to the States, all the fanboys from videogames were falling over each other for one. It's an econobox. Yet some dipstick bought a $24999 car for $50k because of ADM. What's that saying? A sucker born every minute?

I thought just in time was created to save on taxes. Under US tax law businesses were taxed on inventory on hand.

The chip shortage has been around for awhile. Graphics card chips were sold out last year as everyone upgraded computers while staying home. Also bitcoin miners increased graphics chip demands.

They sell more electronics then trucks so naturally the manufacturers follow the demand.

Looking at doing something similar. I assume you held on to the JLU for the 50 days or did you have to trade in at that time?
I sold my JLU outright to Carvana rather than trading it towards the JT at the dealer. So we were down a vehicle for 50 days, but Carvana offered $4000 more than the dealer.
Carvana would probably offer me even more now, I think used car prices have gone up more since 4/1 when I sold it.

I had no idea that kayak/canoe covers had semiconductors in them.

I bought a 13.5' kayak over the weekend and went to buy a cover. I have 3 other kayaks and have always just stopped by Academy Sports to pick up a cover that fits (they had 3 sizes).

Nope. None in stock in the length I need (the other two lengths weren't even shown). So I figure I'll just try Dick's across the street. Nothing. Ok, maybe I need to check online - nothing within 250 miles. OK, maybe Amazon... they sell like 2 models, both 2x as $$ and not exactly what I wanted. Ok, maybe this random "car covers . com" website... nope, they want 2-3x as much and every model is the same price...

I end up at some Yahoo Business sponsored website that sells boat covers and bimini tops. Looks like it was made circa 1999. I had to pay with Paypal... and just hope I get something.

JIT has multiple benefits, accounting is one. Also, less space required to store excess amounts of parts in a warehouse, allowing production (the money making) utilize more space than storing (cost center).

The chip shortage isn't drastically affecting gfx cards - they've been in high demand for 5+ years. Bitcoin requires higher-end cards, which most consumers aren't buying. Gamers are the ones pissed about that the most. A $200-300 good card now goes for 3x that because of bitcoin.

I'm working from home and running 3 monitors (2x24" & 32") off a $100 gfx card. I don't need anything more than that to do my work. I don't do PC gaming, so I'm fine not shelling out $500 or $1000 for the latest octo-core 1TB 0 latency 240hz quad-fan contraption they're selling these days.

The Chinese factory worker(s) who sewed together your inexpensive kayak cover contracted COVID last year and died (because China is hiding the true numbers from the western world). It's taking some time to retrain the children from Olympic athletes to seamsters/seamstresses.

This is why we need machines that can sew fabric together for us... could even call it a sewing machine!

But then they'd need microchips, too? ?

I'm still thinking this out.

It's sad that the I want it all and I want it now and even little Jimmy (who is 6 years old) should have his own TV, computer, cell phone, tablet and motorscooter. We've demanded so much stuff and want it so cheap - guess what..... we're getting exactly what we've asked for for decades.
So to get all of the fun toys and electronic gadgets so a 5 or 6 year old can have their own xbox and other stuff, we've driven chip production down to a handful of makers.
We sit on our asses and talk to a piece of furniture to order dinner and have it delivered and wave our phones around to pay for stuff.
It all comes at a cost that keeps getting pushed further out into the future and growing like a cancer.
We keep listening to companies they TELL US what we want instead of deciding for ourselves.
Consumerism has reached a crossroads with sustainability. We have rewritten the rule book on what a “necessity” is and our perceptions of these necessities will likely lead to some dramatic events.

I read today in the WSJ that the California port of LA is still all fouled/backed up with goods waiting to be offloaded. That's another component to this.

Stopped by my local dealership to pick up a part and was surprised that the lot was 2/3 empty. The folks at the dealership said new car inventory was thin and incoming was spotty. They also mentioned the used car market is just as challenging. Drove out of the way to pass by another couple of dealerships and same situation, nearly empty lots. Is it really that rough for the new car market or is it just the central Florida area?

Here in Charleston, SC the dealer lot was completely full. about 10 or 12 Gladiators and plenty of the other models as well. MB and Ford were across from Jeep and they were all full too.

Friend has a 2 year old Chevy 2500 HD, offered him what he paid for it when new as a trade.
