So now that a few of you have had manual transmission for some time, what fuel mileage are you getting? Some of you have increased tire size. How much did your fuel mileage decrease? Has anyone installed a chip or programmer and found it beneficial?

Stock Sport S. I’m getting 20.0 mpg on the dot at 3500 miles. I drive about 80-85mph on the interstate to/from work. Half my trip is side streets at 25-45mph. Also three trips up into the Rockies pulling a small pop-up camper and tons of stop/go traffic ... manual was a real pain with the camper on 7-mile 7% grade for over an hour.

Hey y’all hoping to get some help as I’m sure some others are having issues....
Anyone figured out a solution to the no dead pedal issue yet? Ordered my gladiator in April and just got it two weeks ago (yeah, that was quite fun). First week was all sunshine and roses but now it’s starting to feel like I’m walking around with a permanently sprained ankle. I’m not sure I’ve ever driven a manual that didn’t have a dead pedal. I know you can buy all manner of after-market dead pedals on amazon but it just looks too tight down there to fit one....

Im getting a gopro tomorrow and my gladiator later this week. It just arrived at the dealiership today. They still need to PDI it. AND YES it is a manual so expect a video.

WEEK 19 BABY!!!!! It still is not at the dealership however.......

I have chosen a darker path at week 17 with a used 2015 Toyota with the good 4.0 motor and terrible back seat leg room and stupid automatic transmission. I've never owned a new car.. never ordered a new car either guess I'll buy a used Gladiator one day. Pretty sour about the whole process but I needed a reliable vehicle to drive.

I'll be back here in 2-4 years. I PROMISE.

So I was talking with one of the guards on base and he likes a manual because he's more engaged in the drive. I was thinking if that's true then manuals might be the thing that helps keep people off their phones while driving. Im sure it's just "too much work" for most people to drive manuals anymore. It's just an idea I had.

You're right on both counts I'm sure, it would keep people focused on driving and most of them couldn't be arsed to do it.

anything you are interested in specfically? I've driven a lot of manual vehicles, and I have the Tacoma, my Miata (actual shifter on the transmission) and my VW New beetle (shift by wire) to talk about as a comparison.

Curious about how it behaves with just easing the clutch and no gas applied. My mustang and Toyota climb most hills at idle without applying gas. (I hit heavy traffic on a bridge with a moderate incline almost everyday) with those two I can just ease the clutch and drop the brake and idle along. My old civic I had to rev the motor a bit or it would stall out.

I'm really just wanting to know and see how the manual drives and feels. That auto video I posted I was pretty impressed with, i could hear the engine see the speedometer and get a good idea how the truck ran at least on highway. Alot of people say the manual is bad, just different or just fine. Just drive around like normal. :D

So I just got curious.
The JL 6speed is the same as the JT.
Everyone loves their JL with 6 speed. I didn't see any complaints, just people trying to get used to the clutch.
The only complaints I can find are with gladiators. Interesting!

The gearing ratios are different!

Someone posted a comparison slider maybe on an earlier page of this thread or another thread. I cannot find it. I would like to see it again if possible, if some one finds it.

Interesting point. Any speculations why? I had a manual ‘06 wrangler that seems like it drove WAY smoother. Are there break in times with new MTs? I’ve never come close to owning a new vehicle until now, so maybe I should expect it to smooth out?

I remember seeing it but thought it was JK to JL.
