Would have gone manual if it could tow... Such an abomination.
Yeah but I'll get just a lighter camper. In the mean time I get to drive a manual, which is much more fun!

Well thats an awesome boost of confidence! Thanks for the post! What did you do with your spare? And speaking of spares, (Some of you owners should be able to answer this). I assume the wheel for the full size spare is just a steel pizza dish, but is the spare tire the same type/brand as the other 4 mounted on the truck, or is it a standard tire that is the same size as the other 4 tires? i.e. the truck receives (5) falken wildpeak M/T's on 4 stock wheels and 1 steel spare?
I have the same wheel as the others with the same tire on it, 37 BFG MT KM3. I had to air it down to squish it in.

So now that a few of you have had manual transmission for some time, what fuel mileage are you getting? Some of you have increased tire size. How much did your fuel mileage decrease? Has anyone installed a chip or programmer and found it beneficial?

My Rubicon says 4500lb max towing and 1300lb haul weight. There are a lot of options in that range these days so I plan on just buying a trailer that the truck can pull. I am not bummed by those specs at all really.

Very short term testing, maybe 150 miles since getting it home... 17 on mixed country roads and short highway.

I'm babying to do that. Highest gear that will make it go, coasting to stops, etc.

I reset it when I stand on it since I want to vary the engine a bit while it's new.

That's on Mopar 2" and 37s. I didn't have it without the 37s, so I have nothing to compare to. I'm happy at 17 though, my Silverado averaged 18 over it's life, not much of a drop for a whole lot more bad-ass-ness.

Im coming from a '14 Silverado with similar fuel economy as well, and i plan to run Mopar 2" with stockers for a bit and then upgrade to 35/37" later on. Thats not terrible for the added weight of those 37's. Thanks for the reply.

So I was talking with one of the guards on base and he likes a manual because he's more engaged in the drive. I was thinking if that's true then manuals might be the thing that helps keep people off their phones while driving. Im sure it's just "too much work" for most people to drive manuals anymore. It's just an idea I had.

A friend of mine bought sticks for each of his kids when they were learning how to drive. Reasoning 1) essential skill and 2) knew they wouldn't be driving and texting, etc.

I absolutely believe in this. Both my kids grew up on manuals for this reason. I think people who drive manuals are just better drivers period. The worst drivers are those who have never driven a manual. Just my opinion.

I have just over 3,700 on mine and am sitting at 19mpg avg. That includes towing a fully loaded Uhaul from Cleveland to Chicago (16 mpg on that trip no 6th gear use), a trip from Cleveland to Philadelphia and back, a trip from Chicago to Cleveland and back, and city diving which kills my mileage because I am hard on the accelerator.

One thing I figured out, the Gladiator can average 25 mpg at 60 mph with no strong headwind. (LOL)

Still running the stock 255 70r18s. Planning to get wider tires, but staying with a 33" size.

85%+ of the time with a manual you aren't actually shifting. #2 is flawed. He/she is just teaching kids the enjoyment of driving and how whatever crap takes a back seat. Teaching a kid to drive stick is more dedication to teaching how to drive than most of the people on the road ever got.
