Didn't Ford drop all cars (except Mustang) from their lineup in favor of trucks and SUVs for that very reason?

That presupposes that the people buying a manual option would not buy the vehicle unless the manual is offered, which I think is a bad assumption.
Ford's still selling the Fusion and Fiesta and Lincoln has 2 or 3 as well. edit - But to your point I just saw they're coming out with a Mustang SUV -- wtf!???

I'm pretty sure that 100% of all buyers who buy a manual have the option to buy that vehicle in an automatic (or CVT,) whereas 90% of all buyers who buy automatics have no other option. Therefore, no, not a bad assumption at all.

My ‘14 Silverado was a great truck, too. Fit my lifestyle well. As the 2ed auto trans I’d had in 41 years of driving, I knew when I drove it off the lot that I was making a mistake. I would even “fake it” driving around pausing at 12 mph, shifting an imaginary stick, pausing again at 30, downshifting at the light. Seriously! I am not kidding. And I never, ever felt confident pulling out across traffic to make a left on a busy street due to the slight hesitation as the torque converter caught. Drove it 5 years and never adjusted. The other auto? A ‘95 Land Rover Disco. Had it about 6 months. The automatic went out at about 80K. On the way home from hunting camp. Reverse was the only gear that half way functioned as I limped it home backwards at 2AM. Yep.... thank you Jeep for making a nice truck with a real transmission!

2019 is the last model year for Ford Fiesta. 2020 is the last model year for Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ. 2021 is likely to be the last year for Lincoln Continental. The only car Ford is going to sell for the foreseeable future is the mustang. When you said "by my logic" it was exactly correct.

Your point about the manual transmission is correct, but is different from what you said in the quote earlier. It doesn't really matter, though, since manuals are still dying out in the US.

If you say so ...

BTW, what brings you to a Manual Transmission thread? Just to spread cheer?

So why do people comment at all about automatics.. So popular. So future. Why comment? Drive your auto and be happy. I'm not worried at all about your auto when im throwing gears, be assured. I have a sedan with auto when I like it. Some of us like manuals. We aren't wrong. We like it. That's all.

And these are the same economics where scarcity and rarity drive up the price of luxury items such as this lifestyle vehicle. Manuals cost less despite more rare. Are you jelly because you pay more? Sad because autos should cost less being more efficient and more popular, yet somehow cost more?

Why people get excited about automatic transmissions baffles me. Hey, look ma, no hands!!!

Hey 5Jeeps, I like your Avatar! I've owned my '60-something Gladiator since new. My mom bought it for me in first or second grade! Passed it down to my boy, but recently made him give it back.

It's a beauty with too many stories to remember. Glad you have it still. I got one out of England just like yours, doors open! My truck truck is getting there, can't wait until it gets done with the latest refurb, especially a/c.woohoo!

It's a discussion board; I'm here to discuss. As far as I can tell, all topics are open to all posters. And I might learn something new. This thread taught me that some people get irrationally defensive if you're not as enthusiastic about manuals as they are. Cheers. :p

Yep, made by Lesney in England. One of only a handful of Matchbox toys I kept from childhood, because I loved the look of the truck so much

Yours truly is a beautiful truck. I'm very jealous. Honestly, the new Gladiator is an eyesore in comparison.

Alvagabond...pretty safe to say those choosing manuals choosing to be more engaged in driving, more passionate about it. Stands to reason you’ll come across as trolling if you come play on the best side of the sandbox. You’re right in that you’re free to do so. This is the web...gotta take with that give.

You cannot go wrong with either choice, times never been better. The pentastar 8spd combo is truly incredible, I have 142,000 kms experience with it. Yup it’s faster, yup it’s more efficient. But if you give some of us more passionate longing to engage more in the drive process the choice to do so...we will choose it! That’s what a manual is. Some of us may also crave more simplicity and mechanical in a world full of electronic convenience.

All choices with this Jeep truck are right choices!

Wow, I didn't realize that offering my opinion in this discussion (that some manufacturers may want to sell 5% more cars by continuing to sell manual transmissions) was being either defensive or irrational. Thank YOU for stopping by and teaching me something today!

Thank you the compliment. Truck is one for the ages, for everyone to enjoy. Once I get her back from the shop, and drive up some dusty road in the hot ass heat blasting the a/c, that will be a good day! I lost a hot wheels and haven't been able to find it. It was the black van. I've looked but haven't seen it.

Huh. Defensive driving is good. And anyone who has studied anything knows that predicting the future is wholly irrational. So I'll take irrational and defensive! Also, you know one reason why I like driving a manual? I am not really not that good at it. True fact. It's a challenge. Simple pleasure when I grab the right gear right timing right place. Get a thrill Everytime!:rock::rock: hey OP sorry to thread jack. I'll go back in my pre-tech cave now...
