acorns everywhere. My neighbor also
Had the same problem with his gladiator. Jeep needs to install screening to keep out the critters.

I need to check this. Thanks for the reminder. Haven't been driving her much his winter.
I hear peppermint spray keeps them away/out.

I have not had a problem with mice, chipmunks ate the engine cover on my wife's 13 Wrangler. Try using peppermint oil on a cotton ball place in the air filter box. It has worked in the past.

Thats pretty terrifying... hopefully you can take care of it before they start getting into those tasty wires

Install DIY screening over all openings with 1/4” hardware cloth (kind of a fine, stiff chicken wire)

I had a huge nest on top of the cabin air filter in a Tacoma. Installed a screen over the A/C intake in the engine bay, solved. Needs the same over the engine air intake if it’s not a daily driver

Yes. I've also had this problem with field mice getting in there in both my vehicles and chewing the wiring / building nests. I have two Toyota's and the rumor is the wiring insulation was somehow soy based. Peppermint oil essence oil ordered from Amazon or somewhere else diluted with water in a spray bottle works. Spray the engine compartment every 4 months or so. There are also devices that you can mount in the engine compartment that emit a noise and light to scare them off. Haven't tried the devices yet, but I do set traps when I see signs such as droppings in the engine compartment. Traps work as well as the peppermint oil and I can transport the cute critter out to release somewhere humanely for my kids sake.

I use peppermint oil bought on amazon and either apply it to things directly or cotton balls stuck into nooks and crannies.

Yes, hardware cloth is a cheap, easy thing to try, don't go anything less as mice will chew right through some metal stuff.

Mothballs and dryer sheets don't work. I've had the mice using dryer sheets as nesting materials in a camper I had and the moth balls were just inches away. I swear the mice use moth balls as bowling balls.
I am not kidding - I put a whole box of moth balls and dozens of new dryer sheets in that camper and the mice simply used the dryer sheets as nests. I even found a nest of baby mice ON a dryer sheet. That cavity of the camper under the bed also had a dozen moth balls in there.

Never found a mouse in my air cleaner. Chipmunks ate the engine cover on my wife's 13 Wrangler. In 90 when I was deployed for a year I had mice get in my F150 and nest in the glove box. Chewed up the owners manual for a nest.

Every fall the vehicle that sits outside, FJ Cruiser and now the Crosstrek, I have a problem with mice in the engine compartments.

I invest in traps and the good old peanut butter rolling bucket of death ?

Almost free (near zero dollar cost) traps that work for mice and chipmunks and are safe for kids and pets:

5 gallon plastic bucket
Fill bucket 60% or so with water
Set bucket near where mice and/or chipmunks (Alvin, Theodore, Simon) are a problem
Make sure they have easy access to the top of the bucket, a wood ramp from the ground up to the top of the bucket helps, or set the bucket next to a retaining wall, etc. as they can climb block pretty easily
Sprinkle Styrofoam® packing peanuts (not the water soluble type) on top of water just enough to cover water surface
Sprinkle a few sunflower seeds on the packing peanuts, just a few will work
I have caught - and killed - 30 chipmunks in a matter of a couple months time, and countless mice this way.
Be sure to check for and retrieve and dispose of dead critters daily, especially in hot weather. You don't want to be around if they've been in there a couple of days.
Chipmunks can't swim and can barely tread water for any length of time. They tire quickly and drown.

I've not seen any real trouble with mice in our garage this winter and I've not seen a chipmunk for months. I've used this method for several years and each year catch dozens of both critters.

Some say a bit of peanut butter works wonders if you don't have sunflower seeds.
