Taped my iPhone to the bumper, found some dirt, and failed to make the hydraulic bump stops engage

Here’s the video anyways:

Mojave Suspension
Impressive video! It may not have shown what you were looking for, but it’s still cool to watch the suspension cycle.

If I can remember I’ll stick my GoPro in there next time I head off-road.

Thanks! I appreciate it. I was a little nervous taping my phone to my bumper, but now that I know it’ll stick I’ll go over faster, rougher terrain. Looking forward to your vid.

My Mojave makes a pretty good thunk noise from what seems to be the front right corner. There was a post on the Mojave FB group and many others confirmed they had the same issue.

It did it when I was bone stock and does it now with the AEV lift. I think its just when it first engages it makes a clunk, but doesn't feel harsh if that makes sense.
I’ve noticed the same thing when going over the speed humps in my neighborhood. Feels and sounds like the right front bottoms out.

Hey guys,
My first post here. I just purchased a 2021 Sand Runner (Mojave), and my Left front bump stop engages going over small speed bumps at like 5-10 Km/hour. So what I've been reading here, this is normal? No dealer action required? Or is this an issue from the factory and should be checked?
Thanks Guys,
Cody

How did you diagnose this? Doubtful it is engaging unless you are really generating some upward wheel travel.

Hey Mike,
Not sure if you are asking me how I diagnosed the bump stop hitting. But I get a loud "thud" and you can feel it hitting when you go over a seed bump. Even my wife was asking what that thud was/is. Never had it on my 2016 JKU going over sand dunes. I haven't taken it to the dunes yet because of this issue.

Well, that’s your problem. 5-10 thousand miles per hour is way too fast.

This is a joke, I’m not that dumb.

Can't say for certain but typically yes, that's totally normal as long as you aren't feeling the hits hard. True Fox shocks are valved linearly trending toward progressive while most standard shocks are digressive so they're going to feel different. Progressive shocks will dip harder on acute hits which is why they really should have bump cans too like the Mojave.

I doubt it’s the bump stop, I believe you need at least 3 or more inches of up travel prior to hitting it. And when it does engage is like a soft squishy thud. I’d double check torque on all suspension hardware first. My JT has sway bar links and track bar bolts loosen up after about 1000 miles. I was also beating mine pretty hard. After re-torquing things were good to go

The Jeep dealer here took all the suspension off and put it back on, consulted with Jeep Middle East and they say the noise is not from the suspension. I still get a thud sound every time I go over speed bumps. So the mystery continues, unfortunately.

Did they check the bolts to the steering box? That caused noise for me one time and it turned out that 2 of the bolts had loosened up a little

Hi Cody,

Did you ever find out what the issue was with your Sand Runner? I've got a 2021, took it out yesterday for a mild offroad desert drive and now facing the exact same issue you've described.

I have a 2021 Mojave with the same issue, started at about 10k miles (on the odometer, not speedo). It was a noticeable difference in feel, the dealer CSR berated me for buying a jeep I didn’t know how to drive, “the Mojave has a special suspension, you are taking the bumps to slowly.” NVM that it wasn’t like that the first 10 months of use! Took it back again, after the thud is heard on both the left and right sides, they replaced the steering dampener with no fix to the issue presented. She went out of warranty last week, so I am a bit concerned.
