Hi everyone, I am thinking about making the switch from a Wrangler to a Gladiator. I live in a climate that gets a lot of snow and slush so the full time 4wd option is very appealing. It is so hard to pinpoint exactly which models offer this option. From what I can tell, it looks like the Rubicon X offers the Rock Trac full time 4wd and the Mojave X offers the Selec Trac full time 4wd. Does that sound right? It is not on window stickers anywhere, and it does not appear on the build guides, but when I look on dealer lots, those trims seem to have this option.

Thanks!

That is correct. SelecTrac is only offered on the Mojave X currently. It was offered as an option on automatic equipped 2021-2023 Mojaves but for some reason incredibly rare.

Newbie, welcome to the world of Gladiator. At the time I purchased mine (Jan 2025, for a 2024 Rubicon Gladiator), I also had no idea and saw absolutely nothing in the Jeep website at the time regarding the 4x4 options or what comes on what models and what doesn't.

With the huge discounts at the time, I was ready to purchase an "X" and then saw on the window sticker that it had the full-time 4x4. (I was thinking about the old Quadra-Trec systems from the past). I decided to purchase a "loaded" standard Rubicon, for about 5k less since I thought the full-time system would be more prone to problems. (That was before I learned what I now know from the great people here).

Anyway, yes, both X models have the full-time system. I'm in South Florida so I don't really need a full-time anything but if you are in areas where you get snow and ice, then apparently the full-time systems are a big plus. At least that is what I have learned here.

Welcome newbie! We did some skiing up in Bend OR last month in our Rubicon X, and the full time 4 High Auto was fantastic in snow, slush, and ice. Highly recommend if you do a lot of cold weather driving. I haven't had experience with with a Mojave so can't comment there.

What about part-time 4x4 with winter tires? I've survived with that for 5 years in Michigan.

24 JT/M in manual and used 4H all winter long here in and around Anchorage. Worked beautifully.

Especially when I specifically did not get frustrated with road dividers that were covered in snow and ice and I drove over them to enter a parking lot. That would be wrong of me.

And I still really haven't found a downside to the Wildpeaks that came on it.

confused ....on the Mojave & (X) window calls it
"Command–Trac® Part–Time 4WD System" for the years 25-26

So does that mean ONLY the Rubicon & (X) have the
"4:1 Rock–Trac® Part–Time 4WD System"

All the rest have the command-track right?

I live in Pennsylvania…. and our weather is all over the map.

I have a 2024 Mojave X with the ”4WD Auto” - which is essentially AWD (All wheel drive). I use the “4 Auto” all the time in the rain. Too many times the rear tires break loose when I’m hitting the gas a little harder to get out into traffic.

I had the 4Auto in my previously owned Canyon… and loved it. Although, not a deal breaker, I was glad the Mojave X had it.

I personally can’t keep track of what they call it….
If you visit your dealership, look at the shifter….. that’ll tell you the story.

I can't speak to the Rubicon's system being full time or not but I know the lower ratio is better for crawling rocks where the Mojave is more the high speed desert running. Not that the JTM can't do rocks but I don't know that I'd be running the Rubicon Trail with one.

The CommandTrac is the standard 4x4 system.

This is my sticker below and in the option side it shows SelecTrac. I checked a local dealer's stock for a JTMX and the sticker doesn't identify SelecTrac but the pics of the shifter from the dealer site clearly show the PT/FT 4x4 like mine. Not sure what thats about but the JTMX remains the only way to get SelecTrac/FT 4x4. I just don't know why Jeep isn't ID'ing in as part of the X package anymore when it's still there.

Thank you! Sounds like a great time to use the full time 4wd.

The window sticker is for the 2022 model year. Yes, it used to be an option. Then, at least from 2024 onward (not sure about 2023), the FT systems only came on the X models. There was no FT option to purchase the FT system on the standard models. Likewise, there was no option to "downgrade" the X back to PT 4x4.

As was mentioned, it seems strange to me that this information is not more easily explained in the online build thing or in the advertising. In the past, it was a big selling point to offer various types of 4x4 systems when purchasing or ordering a vehicle.

Rock trac just means the 4:1 and stronger T-case of the Rubicon, there is rock trac part time and full time. Everyone else gets the 2.72 t case and select trac or command trac. Just check the shifter as shown above and that will make sure you get it.

Once you have it remember that if you are off roading to use the part time 4h and 4low and not 4auto as the auto is done through clutches and will over heat.

The full time T-case have been known to be weaker than the part time cases since they use clutches, but unless you plan on this basically living off road in 4 low the full time cases are plenty strong and durable
