Has the community figured out what the overall travel is for the shocks in the Mopar 2" lift? What about their compressed and extended lengths?

Good luck, I have been searching for this info ... been thinking of going to the dealer and measure the shocks myself ... but then again, I’ll likely buy it anyways and swap the shocks out later for more travel if needed/desired ... but I’d be curious if you find out

I'm really surprised no one that has installed the Mopar life them selves have measured and posted this info. I'm interested in this info to see if the stock Mojave shocks could support a 2" lift.

I'll let you know if I find this info out. You do the same please.

Will do!

Stock shocks are 16" front and 17" rear, compressed. This amount of room has potential for some serious suspension travel without bumpstops. Bilstein 5160's usually have really good travel for a given compressed length. FOX is usually pretty bad, little amount of travel for a given compressed length, I believe this is due to the IFP design, there is a piston floating around in the shock tube that eats some travel.

In the back of my mind i am wondering if a set of Bilstein 5160 will be made for the Gladiator, they have about a 16" compressed length and 12" of travel in some configurations. Which means with the rubicon flares, we will be limited to 35" tires but have great uptravel with the mopar 2" springs because there will be no bumpstop. Just need to make sure the springs are long enough for a shock that can extend to 28".

Ultimately, Bilstein is working on some 8100 series shocks that AEV showcased at SEMA. Internal bypass and hopefully long travel without sacrificing uptravel. but we will see. I like the mopar lift but can see myself upgrading shocks at a later date.

Pic for proof that I own these mopar 2” gladiator lift shocks. The measurements maybe off by 1/8-15/16th inch Bc of variability.

Front shock extended 26-3/8”, compressed 18” = travel 8-3/8”

Rear shock extended 27-15/16” (prob 28” but the aforementioned is what I measured) compressed 19” = 8-15/16” travel (prob really 9” it’s difficult to get an accurate measurement Bc of the darn roost shield and this is even using the shock bolts to measure end of bolt to end of bolt but they wiggle a little.

Well done ! So it looks like they simply extended the shock tubes but using the same shaft as the regular rubicon shocks ... since Mopar mentioned they’re “valves” the same as a Gladiator I am pretty sure they Shock is just stock rubicon shaft and piston inside of a longer tube.

I measured the bumpstops at the dealership with the Mopar lift at 2” front and back.

so the shocks are travel compromised , we get stock flex but 2” of lift ... this is fine for most but anyone looking to optimize suspension travel can probably fine another 50% travel with another shock setup.

all that said, I will still be moving forward with purchasing the Mopar 2” lift. But shocks will be upgraded later down the line as we see better options.

Yes exactly my thoughts, the sway bar end links are long enough and I think the coils are long enough to handle at least another 1" of travel length front and rear easily w/o the coils becoming unsprung. I would love to gain an additional 1-1.5" of travel using another shock (3.5-4" IFP fox for example); but, may need extended rear brake lines and front brake extension brackets along with possibly finagling the coils (using spacers to prevent coil unseating etc.). My experience on the JL has been that most companies are VERY conservative with their shock travel to prevent coils from unseating; but, it's nowhere near this in reality after installing and changing out nearly 5 lift kits on our JL, I test it each time and it's nowhere near using longer shocks (3.5-4" shocks) for a 2" or 2.5" lift kit on the JLU rubicon.

I'm with you on this one though, the gladiator is more of our daily driver. Our JL is our dedicated offroad/rock krawler, so we will prob just leave the gladiator alone with the mopar lift and 35's, and keep emptying our money on the JL :)

what I envision running the Mopar lift will be fine too, My gladiator is also a Daily, just sold my TJ, it was too nice to beat up on the trail. Might get a YJ for trail duty. Gladiator with 8” travel is good enough for playing out doors, camping, Baja.

Like I said, I’ll upgrade to shorter but longer travel shocks later. If I got a shock to a compressed length of stock, remove bumpstops but have an extended length 1” more than Mopar 2”. We’d be in the 11in travel range but limited to 35’s ... before others think I am being too unreasonable. The JK OME front shocks were 16” compressed and 27.5 inches extended. PERFECT.

but thanks again for measuring. Since shocks have always been a pain in my Jeep builds (always too much compromise with certain options).

Resurrecting a thread, but curious if sway bar disconnects actually net any additional travel given this info. Do the sway bars limit stock travel? I’ve been considering disconnects or a swayaway, but this has me wondering if they will do anything with stock travel shocks or not.
