How are you guys carrying your mountain bikes in your gladiators? Anyone use one of these?

Haven't had a pickup truck in many years so bought a 1UP bike rack for the trailer hitch. It's the best of its kind; have had it nearly 10 years and it still looks/operates like new. With the Gladiator, I'm sure there's other options (like a ton) but I'll keep this forever and leave room in the truck bed for other stuff.

Still loving the Velocirax... took it wheeling this past weekend. I thought "camp mode" was going to be a gimmick... nope, pretty helpful keeping the bike out of the way on rack.

Built a dual rack out of scrap decking and skewers I had from a tray rack.

This is exactly what I have done with an old 2x4 that I had laying around.

If I tally up all the bike racks I've purchased and sold over the years (none are ever perfect), it's easily in the several thousand dollar range. Nothing is as easy or as cost effective as this set-up. All in, I might have spent $50 on building this set-up. Run a bungee through the tie down points in the truck bed and this set-up goes absolutely nowhere! It's awesome!

  • If you've left your vehicle in a sketchy area, just pick up this DIY rack and lock it inside the cab of the truck. Rack theft problem is problem solved!
  • If you're in a sketchy area, thieves will likely target vehicles with the $1000 racking systems first (Dude can't even afford a bike rack?!? next...), unless your roof and doors are off.
  • When you get home, it takes less than 2 seconds to remove and you have a full truck bed again.
  • Nothing to rub against the paint on the tailgate of the truck.
  • No chance of a bike unexpectedly bumping/denting/scratching the vehicle bodywork.
  • The entire bike sits below the roofline so the seat and handlebars are not covered in bug guts.
  • Fits under the Sport Rack system that I use for the kayaks.
"More money" does not mean "more better" don't underestimate this rack.

I love the pelican case mounted on the cross bars. I may need to find one laying around work, not being used, and repurpose it.
Perfect for stashing all the bike stuff in one place!

Tested out the Diamondback setup this past trip. Front runner cross bars, 1UP rack on the left, and RockyMounts thru axle w/ Victory 4x4 tray on the right.

I started out with the Kuat NV2 that I had on my FoST. It was a 1 1/4 hitch so I needed a 2 in adapter and it ended up sticking out too far.

So I added the KB Voodoo High Rise system and 2 Yakima High Roads racks. Much better and easier for me.

How in the world did you get the high road to attach to the rails. I can’t get them to fit

Never mind. Success!

Nice work! I was out camping over the weekend and had no cell service. I had to remove the straps that came with the rack and use mounting bolts through the crossbars.

That’s what I ended up doing. Then I cut the “covers” off the straps to finish it out. Turned out great!

Damn. I didn't think about cutting the covers off. I think I threw them away with the straps
