Well true Jeep owners just KNOW what gear they are in by feel, as we are one with our vehicles.

Just kidding

In the display settings (the one in front of the steering wheel), when you go into setup/settings scroll through those until you reach the Gear section, there is an option to check Individual Gears. The menu is the one that says you can't enter it while the vehicle is in motion.
Thanks Patriot. I will check that out when I get back to my vehicle next week.

I don't have Jeep yet but my Dodge Ram 1500 is based on the V6 Gas Engine. Perhaps the Ram is a bit more aerodynamic but I average about 17-19 MPG all around and when on the highway I get around 22 or 23 if I don't go over about 70 - 75 MPH. It starts to suck fuel at the higher speeds.

Not sure why my MPG is so high. I picked it up in Georgetown from Mac Haik, and drove it to Plano that day. Drove around Plano then to downtown Dallas. Drove around a couple of days, and today I drove to San Antonio staying off the interstate and making a day of it on the back roads.

I am currently getting 15.9 combined. Sport/ max tow, 35” tires. This include about 5 days of idle time at lunch for about 40 minutes and 20 miles a day of stop/ go traffic and 15 miles or so at 55 mph. On highway with cruise set, i am getting 20. Calibration completed with a rough country unit and verified by speed trap/mph sign along highway.
So I live in a super small town, and most trips are 1-2 miles. But Im averaging 13mpg. Complete stock as of now. Can only imagine after lift and tires.

Has anyone else had the fuel indicator jump around when low? Mine has gone from 25mi remaining to 45mi remaining in the span of 2 miles and the low fuel light never came on

Then yesterday it went from the low fuel light (hits at 2gal remaining, 40mi in my case) to “Low mi” in the range estimator (hits when there are 15mi estimated remaining) in the span of a few miles.

When I picked up my Jeep it was at 23mpg and had an estimated 440mi on a full fillup. Ever since then though I can only ever fill it up 18gal when the light comes on (which is at 2gal remaining so at least 2gal more should be going in). Best mpgs I have gotten since then were 22mpg doing straight highway

So....what then is the MPG difference between each model because of the gearing with regular mixed driving? (stock, no extra lifts or tire sizes)

The computer re-estimates based on the given conditions at that TIME. So if it says you have 50 miles left on the tank but suddenly you hit some wind or hills, it could drop to 30 - every vehicle I've ever owned with that feature does that. It can only go by current conditions - change the conditions, and that number changes. I've had my Silverado tell me I was fine only to start it the next morning and indicate I had almost no miles left - well, it was a cold engine, I was just starting out of the driveway, the conditions it measures and tracks had changed.
Check CURRENT economy and see what's going on - bet the computer is seeing lower MPG so lowers the estimate. My wife's Grand Cherokee does it, my own 04 Grand Cherokee does that, my Silverado did that, this Jeep does it.
Being on a hill changes things, too, I've noticed.........
Imagine parking your truck in the driveway after a run of mostly highway driving thinking gee, I have 60 miles left, more than enough to get to town for gas - then coming out the next morning and starting it and the low fuel light is on and it says I have 10 miles left - YIKES, I'm 10 miles from town. (Unless I go the 4 miles to Runnells)
Cold start, poor mileage, just getting out of the driveway in a cold vehicle, the current MPG must have been about zip compared to the 18 when I parked it.
That was my Chevy..............

now that 20-40 degree temps in Wisconsin are common i'm getting 13-15mpg, any amount of remote start is BAD! and 4-5 stops to and from work 5 miles away doesn't help either.

I hear ya! My mpgs plummet with any city driving. Even if it is an equal mix highway-city and street-city. Went from 23mpg pure interstate to 19mpg within city limits because of the stop/go traffic and rush hour highway traffic, despite trying to keep it in the green and above 20mpg “current”. Hills are the worst drainers of mpgs

I only run my tank below about 3/4 when on long road trips. It keeps the air (i.e., moisture) out of the tank.

That's a worse issue in humid climates where the temperature keeps changing........ and not so big a deal on vehicles that are used regularly.
But if they sit at all - Keep them fairly full or keep them empty. I fill them when I store them for the winter, or I run them close to totally empty, never half-way.

I have an 82 with a perfectly spotless fuel tank inside - it looks like brand new in there. My 70 was the same - the fuel tank was as nice as the day it was bought. Doesn't hurt that I buy gas from only certain places, trusted places with a good turn-over on their fuel stock.

I have 719 miles on my Jeep - 319 of that on this second tank of fuel and it's running 20.4 mpg with a mix of hills, rural driving, city errand running. I credit part of that to the Overland tires and gear ratio. And I'm going against my ADHD as hard as I can try to keep within speed limits and not drive my usual crazy way. New very expensive vehicle helps my motivation there.
But this thing is getting really decent MPG - the tires are where the dealer set them at 39 psi. I need to check the grade on some of the hills in our area - they are pretty strong grades where I live - the Des Moines river valley areas where the glaciers didn't flatten things out.

Thanks Patriot. I will check that out when I get back to my vehicle next week.
Thanks again Patriot. I just got back, and it worked. I really like being able to see what gear I'm in now. FWIW, my Gladi Rubi drives a ton better on highway mountains and hills than my old 2012 JKUR did with the 6-speed auto. I also spent a bunch of time driving in the mountains with my soon-to-be-ex-wife's 2017 H3, which is a 4-speed auto. When engine-braking on steep grades, sometimes 2nd gear was too slow and 3rd gear was too fast. With the 8-speed there always is a correct gear.

Did you notice it takes a few seconds to register the gear change? I can feel shifts and it is a bit before it shows on the screen. Also some shifts you cant feel at all
