Having looked at a lot of expensive storage options i went the red neck way. I bought 4 industrial 40 liter totes with wheels and handles. I buy once a month out the army commissary this is a two hour drove, with food products exposed to weather is not a good option. The totes fill the back jeep bed very nicely, the lids are weather proof and have snap closures. The height is just right to run a small rachet strap across so there is no movement under way. these are sold on Amazon for 53$ a pair if someone wants to the same cheap solution.

I bet those work just great. I for years overlanded through some hellacious weather with cheap Sterilite totes I picked up at Walmart mounted on my overhead rack and never had a problem with rain. Now, dust, yeah, that gets into everything, so I did finally break down and buy some Alu-Boxes. But, those cheap totes worked well until I could afford the more expensive option. I expect for a commissary run you're not traveling a lot of dirt roads. ;-)

They make 'em with foam seals and latches, not very expensive. I got several when Dad was killed and I needed to store a huge amount of family history, century+ old Bibles dating into the mid-1800s, historical documents and the only place I had any space was my wood shop. Talk about dust - even with my big dust collection and filtration systems. These things have kept out everything. They seal very well, the edges are deep and the foam makes good contact with the top edges of the tubs.

I REALLY like the useful handles on those things - looks like they'd be easy to grab and pull the tote out with, even with gloves on or whatever.
I originally missed your bit about the straps - perfect solution to keep 'em calm.

For a link i do not have any idea how to do one, I may have to ask me grandson.
Oh . . . oh I feel your pain ! Lucky you, having a grandson to seek "help" ! ;)
I used to follow your example for years when I had a ARE Cap on my truck . Though even that is not anywhere near an airtight or watertight compartment . . . having the inexpensive "totes" sufficed . Also able to get them via any number of Navy Military Exchanges during my 20 years . . . even now in retirement with an Air Force Base within 45 minutes .

But Now I need something "Dual Function" - that is, for a truck bed, covered (again) in a not so "leak proof" Cap; though the RSI SmartCap should be much Better at IT than todays (USA made) Fiberglass Blown toppers, IMO .
"Dual Function" in that my Camping / Fly Fishing "things" need to be protected while in the (future) truck (of choice) AND while with me IN my Drift Boat . SO, for ME, SOFT Watertight "Bags are the answer . They also have the added advantage of "Conformity" to their surroundings, thus Optimizing Space - which in the case of the Gladiator, is at a premium !
I HAVE and USE (often) my www.fishpondusa.com "containers" ! the ones under the 'SUBMERSIBLE' section . Now you all know . . . "the rest of the story" ! ;) :)

EDIT 15 minutes later -- Now I just gave myself an idea . . . go to the Military Exchange (on line) and see what sorts of Water Tight Bags they carry ? Oh, and before you say it . . . yes I know the Fishpond stuff is $$$, but my history with the products is over a number of years of heavy use and have never had any issues . . . the old adage, "you get what yu pay for," holds true in this case for me . Besides the LARGE Duffle THIS Year is a Gift . . . thanks Santa .

Ive used these Remington 82 Quart totes for last 5 years for trailer/truck storage. They are lockable and keep my motorcycle boots/parts/tools dry on long hauls with a true weathertight seal. I’ll have to photo them in the gladiator bed. They also have a nice strap/groove system to synch them down from moving or if you need to attach extra gear. https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/remington-weathertight-tote-87-qt-1129335

It looks like IRIS USA makes both the original sterlite mentioned tote and this smaller Remington brand.

I like Fishpond stuff. I use some of their gear on 3-4 day kayak/camping trips where everything has to be water tight and will likely take a bit of abuse. Not cheap but has held up well.
