Hey All,

My 21 Gladiator recently started having location issues. At first I thought it was just the Nav unit but tonight I noticed the app has correct date/time but showed me in the Detroit River!

Not to pile on, but is the app (Android) getting worse for anyone. I routinely have to open it 2-3 times for it to stay open, and every third time it loses the biometrics and I have to go back a set it up with PIN.

Umm are you talking about the built in nav or Google maps?

And what app? a little clarity on what your talking about would help others help you

Good point!

To clarify:
  • Uconnect Nav
  • Jeep (Sirius XM Guardian) app version 1.98.9

My 21 hasn't had any issues. I did upgrade the 7" to 8.4" so the head unit hasn't been updated in years

As for the guardian app...I don't have that feature to compare

Not following this. You thought it was "just" the nav, but the second part is still only indicating a nav issue. Just trying to gather your expectations vs. results.

Is the GPS consistently off? Is it only in a certain area? We've had some elevated solar activity recently (as recent as 2 days ago) which, yes, can affect GPS. How's your overall electric (i.e. battery) health?

Are you talking about Android Auto? What biometrics?

Man I’ve had Nav on vehicles and my phone show me in completely different states. Last time I pulled up my Iphone maps and tried to punch in San Antonio airport it thought I was in Indiana.

I decided right there if I was on a jury and they tried to use cell pings as evidence, verdict would be hung. Same as digital photography.

With Uconnect 8.4 their is a page that allows the operator to view how many satellites you are currently communicating with.
Sounds like you are not recieving any, could be a hardware issue.

Back in 2021, I went to my dealer for an audio out issue using my phone. Everyone complained about the conversation I would have with them. One of the first attempts to correct the issue was an update with the 8.4 radio unit. It did not correct the issue with the audio but it did screw up the Nav portion of the display. I was in South Georgia and it was showing me in the Gulf of America. My phone was not connected or in the Jeep at the time.

The second attempt to correct the Audio issue and the new Nav issue was to do the update again, resulting in a total failure, bricking the radio. I was so pleased that they replaced the radio with a previously used radio to solve the issue, but not really.

The fun I was having got even better. The Nav issue was corrected but the audio out issue was still there. The new issue with the replacement radio was that it had belonged to someone else. The XM satellite on that radio unit was still in the previous owners name with his subscription. Was locked out from changing anything involving XM radio. Short story is, several reboots later and a three-way call between XM, Jeep corp and myself, I was able to register the radio unit in my name.

After a few months of grief, I ended up this a used radio, the same crappy audio out issue and a scratch and dent warranty (Thanks to Jeep Cares).

Update at your own risk. There is a right way and a wrong way. I hope your dealership knows the right way.

Try holding down the off button and channel button same time should rest the head it might take a few minutes for it to go into working mode

Had the same issue in my Durango a few months ago. Check you satellite signals in the settings. Had my antenna replaced under warranty and that was my issue.

Can't say I've ever used the built-in nav, I always just use Google Maps and Android Auto.

With all of the higher solar activity lately I wouldn't be surprised if it's throwing things off.

Ditto on the possible solar activity interference if your issue has been recent and not a long term problem. The solar activity is definitely messing with comms and GPS with the big solar storms this year, at least the civilian versions.

I have a Garmin GPS in my Jeep and one in my Ram truck, with tracks turned on. I am out in the country, wide open hay fields and pastures. I usually get 1-3m accuracy. There are only two roads in and out of here, so there is a good historical baseline showing on the display.

The last few weeks the tracks have often shown me driving through pastures instead of on the road. Random swerves for a while then snap back to the actual road.

Not sure the reason I would need to reset head unit...I'm not having issues with anything

Those of you saying you had, or have, audio out on your U-connect, do you mean that you have no audio when you answer your cell phone? My iphone pairs nicely, I can answer calls or make calls, however no audio comes through, I have to pick up my phone and change it to speaker so I can hear the other person. I have tried resetting the U-connect, unpairing the phone and then re-pairing and the other usual suspects of remediation, however I can't get it to work.

Great conversation!

Sorry for the confusion, I am talking about two separate issues.

So I use a Motorola wireless Android adapter and pretty much use Android Auto. (FWIW I've had good luck with the adapter overall).

However Android Auto takes some time to start, and I was in a hurry and started using the built in NAV, which was wonky. At first I thought potentially a display issue, but when I brought the Jeep up in the Jeep app on my mobile it also showed (and still shows) wrong location. I'm assuming the app is fed from the Jeep, so it really thinks it's somewhere else (vs a map display issue).

With regards to the Jeep App that was a side rant that, at least on my Android, it's super buggy. The app requires a PIN to so things like start/unlock, which can be tied to biometrics on the phone. (Fingerprint be typing the PIN). For some reason the biometrics works for 3-5 times then the App reverts to requiring the PIN. Then recently the app needs to be opened 2-3x just to stay open.

Thanks for everyone's suggestions, I'm going to check tomorrow and see how matter satellites the head unit is picking up.
