Metalcloak 3.5
dynatrac 60's
40" Nitto
Decked bed system

Lot of unsprung weight but not terribly heavy. Currently not running with a spare but will at times in the future.

Jeep currently has MC Rocksport reds. They just seem very loose/soft which at times I do not mind. But get cruising down a road at anything over 40mph and I get alot of rocking back and forth, drives straight up the road very nice but for me seems way too loose. Also has anti rocks front and rear, thinking about putting the OE sway bar setup back on as well.

What would be a good shock to pair with this setup, something that will stiffen it up just a bit? Was thinking about the Fox 2.5 non res. shocks or maybe the Falcon's but this they might not play nice with my Genright inners.

Not going to be doing any fast offroad stuff mainly just limited street driving and trailering it to off road areas.

Close up is on a hoist at full droop.

I'm personally looking at the MC Rocksport Blacks. Pricey, but they look like they're built better than most everything at the same price point. Plus, I've been very satisfied with everything I've purchased from MC in the past.

I was looking in that direction as well, but I talked with someone at MC and he said the big res. shocks like the blacks and fox 2.5 elite are way over kill for most people not running hard and fast.

I am just looking for something with more control on the road with the correct length to still give some pretty good extension. I think for me the reds would be great off road and might end keeping them to swap on before big crawling trips depending on what I buy.

I found the reds great for crawling but under dampened for more spirited driving on and off road. The non-resi foxes were a definite improvement on our heavy JLUR. As long as you get shocks with a similar extended length there's no need to swap back for crawling in my experience.

Are you on the 2.0 or 2.5?

Enjoying the Fox 2.0s I just put on my 24 JLURX. WAY better than the Mopar reds on the road, no more sloppy bobbing like a cork while I drive around. Can't wait to try them offroad... Rebuildable, no resis, just a nice aluminum body, a 2" piston and better valving than stock.

We went with the 2.0s on the JLUR as the non-resi 2.5s weren't out yet. The 2.5 internal bypass mojave shocks are another level, but really only make a difference going fast in the desert.

Yes, my wife LOVES bombing down desert trails in her Mojave X... Those shocks are amazing.

For your needs, you probably just need a digressive monotube like the Bilstein 5100's. With your center of gravity and weight, the relatively soft and progressive style Reds are contributing to the "rocking back and forth" you're experiencing.

I had considered King Shocks, but the local off road shop said they don't tolerate salt well and they get a lot of corrosion issues with King in my area. I heard the same from the local powdercoater, saying he does a lot of Cerakote refinishing on King components to make them stand up to salt exposure.

I like Metalcloak stuff, but the jury is still out on the black series of shocks. They are still the new kid on the block for shocks and with the amount of money I'd be laying out, I want to see how those do after a while and maybe wait for a Gen II model. The nice thing is they are already tuned for my springs and vehicle weight out of the box and I know Metalcloak has outstanding customer service.

Fox is a possibility, but the OE shocks were god awful and didn't last. I've heard mixed things about Fox quality and it seems like they have issues with consistency.

Right now I'm leaning towards Bilstien to upgrade my Metalcloak Rocksport shocks. I've used the 5100 on past vehicles and been happy with them; they seem to tolerate salt and the fine desert silt well.

OE Fox are VERY different than their aftermarket 2.0 version. Fox = plush, aluminum body for great heat dispersion and corrosion resistance, rebuild every 50k miles

Bilstein = a touch stiffer than Fox, steel bodies with zinc plating will have some corrosion resistance, not so great heat dispersion. rebuild every 80-100k miles (if the version you are looking at is rebuildable)

I love my Rocksport Blacks.
I used to get a headache from my head swaying side to side on bumpy trails. Now with the turn of a knob the swaying is gone, Turn the knob some more and pick up some speed and a corduroy road smooths right out. I turn them back down for a Cadillac ride when I'm airing up for the highway, Highly recommended.

Let me ask the group about shock rebuilding…how many have rebuilt theirs in their garage/shop? Vs. sending them back to the OEM to rebuild…and what did they charge you for that service? An inquiring mind wants to know…thanks
