Need to look at the door jam sticker, that is gospel above everything else.

Also need to give me the salesman contact info as I need a cut of the commission of making the sale for him.
I’ll give you his number. lol. The door jam only has gvwr. It doesn’t list combined.

Manual does not list gladiator Willy’s mode so I am going off the basic sport model. Manual says class 2 hitch is cabals up to 3500lbs. Sport automatic model gladiator without any tow package is 4500lbs with tongue weight up 450lbs. The way I look at this is since I have class 2 hitch I can tow up to 3500 (vehicle rated for more but go by hitch) but have a tongue weight max of 450lbs. I just measured the tongue weight on my boat and trailer and how I usually have it when trailered it is at 265lbs at tongue which is well below the 450lbs of the non tow package gladiator capabilities. My boat provable is in 2000-2500lbs weight loaded with my trolling motors, main motor, fuel, batteries etc. which well below the 3500lbs of the class 2 hitch rating. I should be good to go here. Correct me if I am wrong. But I think I have this issue over thought and figured out now. 😂

Btw… thanks for all the information and help.

Must have glanced over it. thanks for the help. Not to beat a dad horse. I am just trying to make sure the vehicle will do what I need it to do.
You will need to drive it and see if the Gladiator fits you. Look for an Overland with the tow package and LED and you'll be set.

I dont need 6000lbs of towing. Just need to move my boat. The willys I am looking, I was able to talk down to a good deal. Just need to make sure it will tow safely. From my math it looks like it should work.

I ended buying it since my boat is well under the 3500lbs for class 2 hitch. Seems odd that jeep would put a class 2 hitch on a vehicle whose base towing capacity is 4500lbs though.

If Jeep rates if for 4500 lbs, they have tested it for that.

yep I agree. Just odd that the vehicle is tested and rated for 4500lbs but they put a hitch that is only rated to 3500lbs. They should have put a class 3 on to get the full 4500lb capacity.

All Gladiators come equipped with a trailer hitch from the factory. For those without the factory tow package, this hitch is a Class II with provision for a ball mount through the bumper/fascia and is rated for a maximum of 3500lbs and 350lb tongue. If the owner decides to replace this hitch with a Class III or IV hitch later on, their non-tow package truck can now be used to tow up to the rated 4500lb and 450lb tongue capacity. I'm sure the reasoning made sense to some bean counter somewhere.

I guess lol. Probably just a way to add on additional cost for an “upgrade”

Got the boat on. I’ll have to go with an in-line straight hitch to counter the few invest I lost from the ram 1500 I had. The bottom sits about two inches low and the back two inches. Not bad and good enough to tow but I like keeping things inline.

I drove the trailer down the highway to a truck stop a couple towns over and weighed my boat and trailer. My guess was 2000lbs loaded how I would normally trailer it, which is with all my fishing gear in the boat. It can out to 2100lbs on the CAT scale with half tank of gas. Not to heavy at all. Still well under the 3/4s tow and tongue weight for class 2 hitch. It trailered nice. Coolant, trans, and oil were 215, 200, and 215 respectively at high end and that was usually merging with traffic so I was heavy on the gas or when I was going up hill. Otherwise they settled a bit under those temps. With the bot being so light I didn’t have to manually shift it. Shifting and rpm were fine with automatic. It does feel doffeeent than the 5.7 hemi that was in my ram 1500 though. lol. Totally expected but it wasn’t bad at all. You could just feel it more under heavy acceleration.
