Kind of looks like a Bronco sport in silhouette. Electric has awesome potential off-road capability wise. Max torque from a start, excellent control, excellent regenerative braking potential, quiet drive, low COG. The issue is... the battery tech and range aren't there to justify it. Maybe for rock crawling when you trailer the machine to the site but if you are like me and like to get far out away from the crowds and spend days in the wild it's a non-starter. On the road you can make fairly accurate predictions about range and of course find a charging site. On the trail there are so many factors - slope, speed, load capacity etcetera, that may affect battery life that would make me very apprehensive. With an IC engine I can take worst case fuel milage and de-rate by a safety margin and have a reliable calculation of range. Let alone that if you run 'dry' you can't hope for someone to have a spare 400kg battery pack to lend. Someday and maybe sooner than later, but at present IC is where it's at off-road.

I went over to the Scout website. The vehicle looks a lot like a Rivian R1S but with square headlights. That isn't bad because I think the Rivians look good for not being Jeeps.

Yeah that’s hilarious when they say affordable, vw, and electric.

im interested to see it but not at all interested in buying. After watching a rivian towing test video and doing a little more digging into how long the batteries last / associated repair costs and all that...there is no way these are worth the money IMO.

Which is a dang shame because I really like the rivians

I can't think of anything more rife for failure than a VW with even more electronics to fail.
At least there no chance for an emissions scandal this time.

Ohh there is, emissions in the factories (just happened the other day that a plant wasn't filtering properly) and in the battery plants. No worries, there will be some drama and some reason to pay in the future

But that’s ok because EV’s are the future…

True my mother in law has one of the last Group of VW Bug Convertables and man that thing is a maintenance nightmare. Always in the shop

Nothing screams rugged American International 4x4 like a bland looking electric German vehicle with like 3" of ground clearance.
